Chapter 28

Today was the day Dustin was coming home, they had all planned to surprise him. Once Marley had finished eating her breakfast she grabbed her shoes and rode to Dustin's house. Outside she met the rest of the party, including El.

"Have you got the sign?" Asked Max turning to Lucas

"Yep." Lucas said holding up a sign that said 'welcome home Dustin.'

They all walked to his back door, and they all walked inside, Marley heard a car pull up on the driveway. And they all ran and hid behind a wall near Dustin's room, Marlow heard him sigh and walk into his room. Max nodded to El and she closed her eyes. Marlow heard a few robotic toys in Dustin's room operate and go out of his room, Dustin soon appeared following them with a can of hairspray in his hands. They waited until he was in the living room, finally Mike turned to El.

"Now." He whispered The second El opened her eyes the toys stopped.

They all crept around, with Lucas holding the sign, Dustin was looking at all the toys confused. Lucas held out the sign and max counted to 1 on her fingers, when she reached one everyone blew on a party horn and they yelled surprise. Dustin screamed and sprayed the hairspray in Lucas's face, Lucas screamed in the pain and they all stood back in shock.

Dustin began showing Marley, Mike, Will and Eleven some of the things he made at camp, while Max helped Lucas to clean his eyes. Dustin took out a small windmill he had made out of recycled items, he started winding it.

"I call it the Forever Clock." Dustin said smiling at them all. "All right? Powered by wind. Very useful in the apocalypse." He then handed it to Will who started winding it around again. "Then I give you." Dustin said reaching into his bag. "The slammer." It was a hammer taped to a remote, Dustin pressed it and it started moving.

He moved it closer to Mike and El, El got scared by it and moved back, grabbing onto Mike's arm. "Pretty neat huh?" Dustin chuckled. "But this. This is my masterpiece." Dustin said putting a duffel bag in the floor. They all bent down in front of it and Dustin unzipped the bag. "I would like you to meet...Cerebro." Dustin smiled revealing a bunch of metal parts.

"What exactly are we looking at here?" Mike asked.

"An unassembled one of a kind battery powered radio tower." Dustin answered.

"So it's a ham radio." Will said raising an eyebrow.

"The Cadillac of ham radios." Dustin replied. "This baby carries a crystal clear connection. Over vast distances I'm talking North Pole to south. I can talk to my girlfriend whenever and wherever I choose." Dustin smirked.

They all looked at each other in shock. "Girlfriend?!" They all said together, Dustin smiled at them all.

As Dustin picked up his bag and the others all picked up some of the parts and as they all walked out the room he told you about his girlfriend.

"Wait so her name is Suzie?" Mike asked.

"Suzie with a z. She's from Utah." Dustin replied.

"Girls go to science camp?" Will asked

"Susie does she's a genius." Dustin answered.

"Is she cute?" Mike asked.

"Think Phoebe Cates only hotter." Dustin smirked.

"What's going on?" Max asked as you passed her and Lucas.

"We're going to talk to Dustin's girlfriend." Will answered.

"Girlfriend?" They both said together just as shocked as the others had been, they than ran after them.

They all walked to the hill which led to the highest point in Hawkins, they all had been walking for ages. And they were each carrying something heavy apart from Mike and El who were holding hands and whispering in each other's ear.
