"Do you see any wrinkles in my shirt?" I asked Ariana.

"No, you're fine, baby." Ariana said.

We were walking from the parking lot to the restaurant to meet Ariana's parents. I decided I would ask both of them instead of just Ariana's dad since Ariana would not stop complaining about sexism and the patriarchy.

"I hope he likes me because I am marrying you regardless." I said.

"Yeah, I know that." Ariana said.

She grabbed my hand and kissed it. I smiled at her.

"Do they serve meat here?" I asked.

"Yes, they do." She said.

"You know me so well." I said.

I opened the door for us, and we walked in. Without saying anything, the hostess led us to a table. Joan and Ariana's dad were already there.

"Hi, girls!" Joan smiled when she saw us.

Joan stood up and walked over to us. She hugged Ariana first then Ariana went to her dad. I hugged Joan.

"Hi, Joan." I said.

"You look so much better than the last time I saw you. Are you feeling better?" She said.

"Much better." I said.

I looked at Ariana's dad. He smiled at me. I smiled back. He stood up.

"Hi, I'm Edward." He said sticking his hand out.

I shook his hand.

"Y/N Archer." I said.

I sat down beside Ariana while her parents sat in front of us.

"So I was just telling Joan that this is my first time meeting you, Y/N." Edward said.

"Yes sir. I apologize for that. Work has just been very hectic." I said.

"Yes, you're a pediatrician, right?" He asked.

"Yes sir." I answered.

"I could never do that. I couldn't handle sick kids." He said.

"It is tough seeing it, but I get to heal them, and that's the best part." I said.

"So what's new with you two?" Joan asked.

"Well that's why we wanted to have dinner actually." Ariana said as she placed out hands on the table.

"We're doing it this early?" I asked her.

"Yes, like ripping off a bandaid." She said.

"What is it?" Joan asked.

"I would like to marry your daughter." I said.

Joan and Edward looked at each other then back at us.

"I mean, do you love Ariana?" Edward asked me.

"Yes, absolutely. I love her more than anything." I said.

"And you're sure you want to do this, Ariana?" Joan asked.

"I have literally never been more sure of something in my life." She said.

"Then I don't see why not. We won't stop you. Right, Edward?" Joan said.

"I agree. I'd be more than happy to welcome you to the family, Y/N." Edward said.

"Thank you." I smiled.

"I need the proposal tomorrow, Y/N." Ariana said.

"Ariana, you can't tell her." Joan said.

"She can kinda tell me. She knows I'll do anything she says." I said.
