Chapter 35

Scarlet groaned as she slowly regained consciousness little by little her blurry vision became clear and her daughter's beautiful worried face stared at her, the sight of her child worried brought a faint smile to her face, she raised her hand and cupped her child's face.

"Mum you're awake," Sofia said a drop of tear ran down her face.

"Yes, baby...did mummy scare you? am so sorry" Scarlet said then sat up on the bed to pull her daughter in for a hug.

"Yes, Mum I was worried about you... you fainted all of a sudden so Dad brought you to his room" Sofia said.

"What!?.. This----this is your father's room?" Scarlet said stuttering a little.

"Yes," Sofia said.

"Scarlet, are you okay?" Roman said when he entered the room.

It took every form of maturity in Scarlet to stop herself from rolling her eyes at him.

'speaking of the devil' she muttered under her breath.

"Yes, I am," Scarlet said.

"you had us worried there for a while" Roman said and placed the glass of water he brought on the nightstand.

"Roman the ship?" Scarlet asked.

"It's six feet beneath the ocean right now and there's nothing you can do about it," Roman said.

"How dare you, Roman?" Scarlet said.

"Stop this madness this instant... This has to end" Roman Said.

"You just put I and Sofia's life in Danger...you think you can face my father when he comes for us?...you think you are strong enough to face him?" Scarlet said with her brows knitted together in a frown as the anger within her began to rise.

"Mum relax Dad can protect us" Sofia said with concern on her face.

"Sofia love I know you think your father is strong enough to protect you but trust me he's not and all I want is to keep you safe" Scarlet said and kissed her daughter on the head.

"I blew up the siren and you think I can't protect you and my daughter?" Roman said.

"You went knocking at the lion's den and Sofia won't be part of it," Scarlet said.

"No one is permitted to leave the island not even you Scarlet especially not you" Roman said angrily.

"Stop this madness, Roman.. you can't hold us here forever! you can't win this fight!" Scarlet said.

"Stop frustrating me for God's sake Scarlet! stop this nonsense. even though you think I can't protect you or am not as powerful as your father the fact that you and Sofia are my life you should be rest assured that I'll do anything anything to keep you both safe even if it takes my life.. for God sake I love you scarlet and I love Sofia as much so please stop.... just stop" Roman said.

Scarlet stood speechless for minutes as Roman's words sank into her, he just confessed his feelings for her like it was the easiest thing to do but that wasn't what made her speechless, it was how her heart flipped cause of his words and how she felt butterflies in her stomach that took the words and every hostile thought out of her mouth and heart.

"I----I---I---I don't care I don't" Scarlet stuttered.

"Sofia can you go to your room" Roman said.

"Okay Dad," Sofia said and left.

"Scarlet" Roman said and pulled Scarlet into a hug.

Before Scarlet could even react she found herself easing into his warm body that towered over hers, his musky masculine scent engulfed her senses and how being in his arms brought a kind of security to her, but she knew she was crazy if she believed this beautiful lie that he could save her from her father.

"stop worrying and don't run away from me anymore scary...I need you. we need you" Roman said and placed a lasting kiss on her forehead.

"Stop," Scarlet said and pulled out of his embrace.

"why? why are you making this hard? Why do you so much want to run away from me? you know I can bring down your father you know that" Roman said frustrated.

"Cause you don't know what you have gotten us into he's going to come for us...for Sofia and it won't be nice. you blew his siren Roman it would have been better you took your own life than touching the siren and thinking you can get away with it cause you can" Scarlet said.

"Yet he sent you to bring me down? you are the one who doesn't know what's going on here...Do you know who I am?" Roman said.

"A rival my father wants to take down," Scarlet said.

Roman scoffed and took her hands in his, it was very small and innocent but he knew better, these small-looking hands could kill the biggest of men, slowly he brought her hands to his lips and placed kisses on them.

"Roman" Scarlet whispered.

"You don't need to worry about anything just stay beside me and I promise you with my life that no harm will come to you or Sofia" Roman said.

"I can't Roman... I just can't" Scarlet said and took steps away from him.

There was a silent battle going on in her mind between her head and heart, deep down something somewhere in her heart believed that Roman meant every word he said, that he was capable of protecting her and Sofia, but then the fear of her father was as greater that whatever her heart was saying.

"Scarlet please" Roman said.

The desperation and pain he felt were visible in his eyes, it was like he was reaching for the most important thing in his life but wasn't getting it, or though Scarlet wanted to so badly give in she knew better if she ever did that it would end disastrous for them all. The sound of her cell phone ringing brought her out of the emotional roller coaster her heart was on but when she picked up the phone and saw the caller ID her heart sank and fear gripped her, with shaking hands she brought the phone to her ear.

"How dare you, Ava! How dare you go against me?" She heard her father say.

"I-I-I-I'll never do that I-I-I- can explain" Scarlet stuttered in fear.

"No one bites the hands that feed them and go scot-free, Ava run as far as you can cause when I catch you.....life will become a living hell for you," Her father said and ended the call.

Scarlet dropped down to the bed trembling with shaking hands and tears running down her face, Roman took the phone from her and dropped it on the bed, then shut down so he could look her in the face.

"It's us against him now," Roman said to her.

"No——you just ruined my life again, he's coming for me and this time around I have nowhere to hide," Scarlet said.

For the first time in her life, she was scared not just for her life but also for the life of her child, she knew there was no running away from all this, her father was going to make her life miserable and eventually kill her and there was no one that could save her from him.

No one.
