Chapter 41

Catarina chuckled when she heard scarlets screams, she felt bad for intentionally setting her up knowing fully well that this room they were in was Xavier's and the room next door was his office so it had a connecting door to the bathroom since this whole floor was built like a suite, but she felt her brother needed a little change in his life and scarlet was wounded emotionally they both needed the distraction and even a blind person could tell they were attracted to each other the moment they saw each other, it might be a little spark but she was ready to encourage them.

"Oh my, she didn't know there was a connecting door," Agatha one of Catarina's Nurses said.

"Wow, I forgot to mention that," Catarina said playfully.

"What on earth are you doing in my bathroom" Xavier said and turned away from Scarlet.

"What?.... I didn't know this was your bathroom if I did I wouldn't come near it" Scarlet said with her hands covering her breast.

"Goddarmit," Xavier said and left the bathroom.

Scarlet slowly sank into the water till her body was buried in the water and only her head was above the water as what just happened replayed in her head, embarrassment washed all over once again and her burning cheeks weren't helping in any way.

"Aaargh scarlet," She said to herself and face palmed herself.

Xavier was indeed a magnificent man, the tattoos on his arm ran up his sleeve to his chest like an armour worn by a gladiator, and the lion tattoo on his back exuded so much power and authority, he was beautiful to behold and the thought of him took scarlets to breathe away and made her heart skip a bit, she had a crush on him already and the obvious redness on her cheeks gave it away.

"Pull yourself together Scarlet you not a teenager anymore stop being stupid" She said to herself while face-palming herself repeatedly.

"I am fine...I do not think he is a hot Greek god or my sexual desires walking on two legs...I do not want to see him again and also my heart does not flutter when he's around...I am not a child...I'm a mother and I have other responsibilities so am just gonna take my bath and get out of this bathroom before I think of doing anything stupid" Scarlet said to herself and quickly washed.

As fast as she could she cleaned herself up and left the bathroom like she was running away from a ghost, when she entered the room everyone was gone and it was quiet except for the beeping sound of the monitor that was attached to Sofia, which made her realise that she didn't have the luxury of time to lust after a stranger, she couldn't afford thinking of anything else that wasn't her daughter, she had to protect her child and she couldn't hide forever eventually she would have to face her father there was no time to relax, no time for meaningless crushes.

"Hey baby," Scarlet said as she sat on the chair beside Sofia, she struggled to fight the tears that were gathering at the bank of her eyes from spilling, she knew she had to be strong for her child.

"Mummy is here okay, you'll be alright," Scarlet said as she kissed Sofia's hand.

She sat there for a while staring at Sofia and then at the monitor that indicated her blood pressure and pulse were perfectly okay which she was grateful for, after looking at Sofia one last time she stood and went over to the other side of the bed where a dress laid on the bed and some medicine and a note.

"Kindly take these drugs when you come out and meet me downstairs there's something we need to discuss regarding Sofia's health...do not panic it's not something serious and I hope the dress fits...love Catarina," the note said.

Quickly Scarlet put the underwear and dress on and wrapped her still-wet hair in the towel, She took the drugs from the table and rushed out of the room, she looked left then right then decided to go towards the voices she was hearing which she assumed was coming from downstairs, when she got downstairs she saw Catarina and Xavier talking.

"Oh, here she is," Catarina said when she saw her.

"Hope I am not interrupting anything?" Scarlet asked avoiding eye contact with Xavier.

"Not I was just discussing Sofia's situation with Doctor Xavier here...please have a sit," Catarina said and gestured at the chair beside Scarlet.

"Doctor?" Scarlet said with a questioning brow as she took the seat beside her.

"Yes Dear Xavier is a doctor......." Catarina said.

"Your child needs serious medical care even though her vitals are stable at the moment her wound is seriously infected...Catarina would monitor her all through the night and if there was no change by tomorrow afternoon we would have to administer stronger antibiotics" Xavier said cutting whatever Catarina was about to say off.

"Oh my," Scarlet said sadly.

"oh dear don't worry it's nothing serious......." Catarina said.

"How did an eight-year-old get shot?" Xavier asked cutting Catarina off again he with a cold expression on his face and his gaze pinned on Scarlet.

"I--- it's ----i---its a long story--- I was--" Scarlet stuttered as the tears she had been fighting off came running down her face.

"Careless to let your child get shot? Is that an excuse? If you aren't fit to be a mother then use protection" Xavier said the anger he felt was visible in his eyes burning brightly with his gaze pinned on scarlet.

"Xavier" Catarina said.

"It's against the medical profession to treat a gunshot wound without a police report especially when the victim might be in grave danger and all she has to say is it's a long story?" Xavier said.

"You don't know me and you have no right to call me an unfit mother...you how dare you!" Scarlet said in tears.

"Then tell me why an eight-year-old is fighting for her life due to a gunshot wound, why were you washed up on the shore? who are you? And why the hell do you look like you are about to break" Xavier said his composure not changing but his eyes had a lot to say.

Scarlet couldn't hold back anymore after hearing all that, she burst into tears and cried bitterly letting out every single tear she had been holding back out, the pain she felt was like her heart was being ripped out of her chest from the inside, she wept until there were no more tears.

"Xavier that was uncalled for" Catarina said then went over to console Scarlet who was still crying bitterly.

"Am So sorry Scarlet. I am sure he didn't mean any of those words...It's okay" Catarina said as she robbed Scarlets back.

"No...he's right...he has every reason to question me...but Doctor Xavier I need you to know that I've beaten myself up a thousand times already and if I could turn back the hands of time and do things differently I would.....I will do anything for my child 'cause she's the only reason why I live" Scarlet said in between sobs.

"Hold her she's s about to faint" Xavier said.

"What?......" Catarina began to say but was cut off when Scarlet fainted on her

"Told you" Xavier said then came to pick Scarlet up and carried her bridal style upstairs.

"For someone with a sharp tongue you should at least weigh as much" Xavier said.
