Unsurprisingly, when I arrived at school on Monday morning, Sierra was nowhere to be seen.
Faith, unfortunately, was.
"I can't believe they're making us go to school after prom. I mean, what's the point?"
I shrugged, not wanting to argue.
Keeping my eyes on the parking lot, I hoped against hope that Sierra would appear.
Can't blame her for staying home.
When the first bell rang, summoning us inside, I turned, following Faith as she continued loudly and viciously criticizing the outfits of several girls at prom.
"-and Alana - what was she thinking? Red is really not her color; she looked like a tomato!"
I acted like I was listening, but behind my feigned interest, I seethed.
She's really not going to mention it?
As much as Faith had been talking about Prom night, not one word had been spoken about what happened after.
Is she trying to sweep it under the rug? Pretend that Paul didn't attack Sierra?
As we walked toward our lockers, a sick, undeniable urge overcame me, and I asked, "So, how was the rest of the night? I'm so bummed that I missed it."
Let's see how she lies.
I watched as her jaw tensed, "Kinda dull. Not long after you left, Nate started freaking out - apparently, he lost his keys?"
I fought back a smirk as she continued, "Anyway, after he stormed off in an Uber, we went to the afterparty." Shrugging, she added, "Zane won a bunch of stuffed animals. Turns out he's really good at carnival games?"
She paused, seeming to think. "Yeah, I think that's it?"
Unsatisfied, I prompted, "What about after that? I know you were upset when you didn't get any alone time with Zane."
Faith looked away. "It's fine. I was outvoted, so, whatever."
She's really not going to address it.
Looking over at her, I tried a new tactic. "Are you feeling okay? You look kind of tired."
Swallowing, Faith stepped up to her locker, haphazardly spinning the combination. "It's just- Mom and Paul have been fighting, that's all."
That's not all, and you damn well know it.
Outwardly, I said, "Oh?"
"Yeah," she stopped twisting the lock and pulled at the latch, opening her locker door, "I..." she glanced around before lowering her voice. "I think they might be getting a divorce."
No fucking shit.
"Oh, I'm sorry." I murmured, feeling anything but sorry in my thoughts.
"Just," Faith pulled her bag off her shoulder, placing it inside. "Could you keep that between us? I don't want everyone at school knowing my business. It was bad enough when Mom and Dad divorced - I really don't want to deal with that again."
Says the girl who's nose-deep in everyone else's business.
"Sure." Disappointed, I opened my own locker, pulling out the books I would need for my first few classes.
From behind, the squeak of sneakers approached, and I looked over my shoulder to see Owen walking up to us, concern in his eyes.
"Hey, have either of you guys heard from Sierra? She's not answering my calls, and I'm starting to get worried."
