Chapter Thirty-Six

Red

China and I just got home from Bali.

"Thank you" China tells the Uber driver that picked us up from the airport.

"You're welcome, have a great day" The driver replies.

"You too" China waves, closing the car door.

The driver drives away.

"You too" I mock China with a mean mug.

She rolls her eyes.

We walk up to our front door, entering the house..

"Dj, Dani!" China yells stopping at the living room with her suitcases

A few seconds later Dj and Bj come jogging down the stairs..

"Dani went somewhere with her boyfriend" Dj tells China, taking her suitcases.

"I'll carry these to your room" Dj walks up the stairs.

"Nigga I was gone carry my lady luggage up there" I tell Dj causing him to chuckle.

"Hey Bj" China smiles.

"Hey auntie, how was your trip?" Bj asks China.

"It was amazing-" China stops talking with a worried expression..

"What happened to your face?" China questions Bj.

He clears his throat "Long story"

There's a knock at the front door that causes silence..

DJ (Daniel Jr)

I come back down the stairs just as someone knocks on the front door causing everything to fall silent..

"I got it" My dad says walking to the door.

He opens the front door revealing Aunt Lola and Summer.

Summer has her arms crossed nervously with her head down..

"We need to talk!" Aunt Lola says pushing past my dad & walking up to my mom, dragging Summer by her hoodie.

"Hello to you too" My mom says sarcastically with a confused look on her face.

Aunt Lola rolls her eyes "Now is not the time to be funny"

"Look at Summers eye" Aunt Lola points at Summers face..

My mom squints her eyes "It looks a little purple, what happened?"

Aunt Lola looks directly at me causing me to swallow a lump in my throat.

"You think Dj did that?" My mom questions in shock.

"Dj didn't do anything!" Summer chimes in.

"Summer!" Aunt Lola yells loudly causing Summer to be quiet.

"Dj?" My mom questions.

I shake my head "I ain't do shit" I shrug

But I did...

*Flash back*

"You had fun flirting with Bj in my face?" I ask summer, angrily licking my teeth as I pull out of my driveway to take her home.

"Flirting?" Summer scuffs

"I wasn't flirting with him. His dad just beat him up and kicked him out, I was just trying to cheer him up" Summer continues..

"Oh you gone cheer him up huh?" I ask with an angry chuckle having vivid visions of them having sex causing me to backhand smack her while driving.

"Dj!" Summer screams in fear, holding her face.

I instantly regret what I just did...

"I-I'm sorry" I tell her while coming back to reality.

Fuck...

*Flash Back OVER*

"This shit is unacceptable" Aunt Lola says angrily shaking her head.

"Summer said he didn't do it, He said he didn't do it.." My mom says sounding confused on what to say next...

"She's lying for him, Clearly" Aunt Lola palms her face.

There's a moment of silence..

"I'm trying to go about this nicely without getting Poncho involved" Aunt Lola continues.

"Mom" Summer says softly shaking her head.

"What's gone happen if Poncho get involved?" My dad asks with a chuckle.

"Red" My mom says telling my dad to be quiet.

There's another moment of silence..

"I think that until we actually know what happened, we all should just relax" My mom speaks.

"I'm not going to relax when it comes to my daughter being abused. She's lying for him because she's young & impressionable right now, she doesn't know any better but I do. Summer is no longer allowed to be around Dj, ever!" Aunt Lola says angrily before grabbing Summers hoodie & dragging her out the front door.

Summer and I make eye contact for a split second before she's gone...

"I can't believe Lola just barged in here like that accusing Dj of beating on Summer" I tell Red angrily while brushing my teeth as he lays on the bed.

"Shit crazy" Red says unbothered.

"Do you even care?" I ask because of how calm he is..

"Yeah I care but I'm not about to stress over that shit. Like you said until we know what actually happened then there's nothing for anyone to do or say" Red answers.

I nod.
