The next day, you were buzzing with excitement and also uncertainty. You were excited to forget what happened yesterday and start fresh. The rest of last night with Jenna was just like how it was before - perfect.

The reservation was held at The Hills, a fine dining restaurant. It had the best of the best reviews. Attire was an important factor. You got yourself dressed in an elegant evening gown, curled your hair into loose waves and applied a very natural, but beautiful make-up look.

Jenna was wrapping up on the set, feeling excitement but also a pang of anxiety whenever she thought of it. Jenna hoped she was going to do right this time and not fuck it up.

You took one last glance in the mirror, feeling confident in yourself. Feeling beautiful enough where Jenna would be proud to have you as a girlfriend. You slung your purse over your shoulder, preparing to head out to the restaurant - then your phone buzzed.

You slipped your phone out of your purse to find a text notification from Jenna.

Jens <3

"Hey, y/n. I'm really sorry, but there isn't enough room for everyone at the restaurant tonight. They changed our reservation. It's a bit of a mess. I think it's best if you stay home this time. I hope you understand. See you when I get home, baby. <3"

Your heart thudded hard against your chest as you read Jenna's text over and over. History was repeating itself. The text wasn't just a change of reservation, but it seemed like a personal rejection. Your eyes stung with tears, continuing to read each word on the illuminated screen. Your emotions were swirling with feelings of abandonment and hurt.

You wanted to respond to her, you had so many words but you hesitated. Unsure if your feelings would be pushed to the side or that you'd create more tension. Instead, you put your phone down and reminded yourself that you need to prioritize your own well-being.

Jenna felt immense regret after sending you the text. She sat at the table with her friends, quieter than usual. Her friends would ask what was wrong, but Jenna played it off that she was tired. Every time her phone buzzed she hoped it would be a notification from you but it never was.

The door creaked quietly as Jenna walked into the apartment to find you sitting on the couch, your face illuminated by the soft glow of the lamp that sat beside you on the table. Jenna's heart ached seeing you sit there all alone.

You looked up at her, your expression was guarded but sad. You were changed back into sweatpants and a t-shirt, hair pulled back into a bun. Your face of makeup was present, but the tears you shed left mascara stains under your eyes and down your cheeks.

Jenna sucked in a breath before speaking. "Hey." She said quietly, walking over to the couch and sitting down on the cushion next to you. "I'm sorry, y/n. I didn't mean to hurt you with that text... And after I sent it I knew it would. I made a mistake. I'm sorry." She bit down on her lip with uncertainty, knowing she jeopardized her relationship with you.

You looked away, unable to make eye contact with her. "Jenna, it's not just about dinner. It's about how you handled it. You're still trying to hide me. You're ashamed."

Jenna's face flushed with guilt. "I'm so sorry, y/n. You mean so much to me - I don't want to make you feel like this. I hate myself for it."

Your eyes were filled with a mixture of hurt and longing. Longing for the Jenna you know when you two are alone. "I just want to be with you, Jenna. I want to be part of your life. Not just on the sidelines."
