It only took a few minutes before everyone converged in the main hall once again but their expressions were still serious.
Baili Chao was the first to shake his head. "I don't think the rooms here are suitable. The hall itself seems like our best bet. With it being this big, as long as we can take down one of the walls and maybe part of the pillars holding the roof, it shouldn't be an issue to collapse. The other rooms seem less likely to work."
"With this much space, they'd have enough room to evade though, wouldn't they?" Ximen Chang couldn't help but furrow his brows. "If we don't catch them all at once, there will still be a tough battle ahead of us. We don't know what numbers they'll come with. If it's a lot, we might not be able to deal with the remnants."
Baili Chao gave a hum in response. "Indeed but then, the arrays are also mostly in the hallways in front of this place. If we were to try and make one of the other rooms work, can we be sure that we can still escape? We might be creating our own death trap if we try to lead the demonic practitioners into any of them. We'll have to be in front of them, after all."
Shen Lei had quietly listened now that the Elders knew what to look out for. Hearing this though, he glanced at Luo Lin. Obviously, the two of them could make use of Luo Lin's ability to escape the demonic practitioners, couldn't they? In that case ... "We might not need everyone gathered in the specific room we choose. The idea would be to lure them into the right place, wouldn't it?
"As long as somebody acts as bait and rushes there, they should follow as long as they can perceive the spiritual energy everyone gives off in that general direction. Then, everyone could escape from the previously shown array while the people who baited them set the trap in motion. Just a few people will have an easier time making it out alive. If we have a defensive item or two, we could even be able to withstand the blast in the worst of cases. After all, contrary to them, we can prepare."
Luo Lin naturally thought of the same idea as his fiance and hurriedly nodded. "Yes, that's right! My second senior martial brother also gave me a few items before so we could use those. Plus, Ah Lei and I are most familiar with the items to use to cause the explosion so we'll have an easier time handling it when the time is tight."
Elder Baili nodded, understanding that they could use Luo Lin's ability as a safety. "It does sound like a good idea. Disciple Shen's level isn't low and while Ah Lin is lagging a little behind, it's not by too much. Considering how long they've been together, their coordination will likely make up for that."
Elder Diao shook his head though. "How can we let two disciples face a horde of demonic practitioners on their own? It's much too risky. We as Elders should take on this task." It didn't sit well with him that two people of the younger generation were supposed to take on the most difficult task. It just didn't seem right. He couldn't understand why Luo Lin's Master would allow him to do this either. If it was one of his disciples, he certainly wouldn't agree to this! Either way, he couldn't simply watch this happen. "I don't mind doing it myself."
Shen Lei looked at Diao Huan and smiled faintly. "I am grateful to Elder Diao but ... I am already at the nascent soul stage. If not because I didn't take in any disciples yet, I could have the status of an Elder in the Teng Yong Sect so you don't have to look at me as someone from the younger generation. My level is high enough. Not to mention ... the disciples of the Li Ren Sect rely on you. If there truly are people from the other side left after the explosion or at the very latest when further reinforcements arrive, they'll need someone to command them effectively. That is a role you will have to take as an Elder.
"This task ... Ah Lin and I can do it. Please trust us." He looked at him seriously and grabbed Luo Lin's hand more tightly at the same time, pulling it up to his chest. "I love Ah Lin with all my heart. Even if I could put my own life at risk, I'd never agree to his coming with me if I had any doubts about making it back in time or out of here alive. So really, you don't have to worry about us."
Diao Huan wasn't sure if he should believe this but looking at the two youngsters and then turning to look at Baili Chao who wasn't disagreeing either, he could only sigh. "Very well. If I can't convince you otherwise, then so be it." Anyway, Shen Lei was at least right with one thing: He was responsible for the disciples of his own sect, more so than others. Since these two didn't want his help, he ought to focus on that and make sure that he brought as many of them back alive to their Li Ren Sect as possible.
Shen Lei inclined his head, glad that the Elder had finally agreed. For a moment, he had been afraid that he'd try to find a compromise and try to accompany them or send somebody else along with them. Obviously, that wouldn't work or he and Luo Lin wouldn't be able to escape to the dreamscape without making it known to others. Or maybe even worse than that: What if they escaped and had to watch the other person die? He'd rather not have that happen. But thankfully, they had managed to convince him. Now, they only needed to set up the trap for the people from the demonic faction and then, all they had to do was wait.
