Luo Lin looked at his back with some concern but if Zhi Guan didn't want any help, there was little he could do. He turned to his fiance and sighed. "We should look for something else to do." He had allowed himself a few minutes of simply leaning in Shen Lei's arms to rest and calm down after the fight but they couldn't continue like this. Everyone else was moving and they should do their part as well.
Shen Lei examined his expression just as Zhi Guan had. He really wanted to shake his head and tell Luo Lin that his first senior martial brother was right and that he needed to take a rest but he also knew it'd be futile. Luo Lin's level actually wasn't that low and apart from a select handful of people, nobody knew about his ability. At this moment, everyone was tired. It was still excusable for the youngest disciples to sit down and rest up but at their level, it simply wasn't possible.
At most, they could find an easier task to take care of. Otherwise, they would invite scorn from the other disciples and maybe even the Elders from the other sects. If that happened, it would cause a fracture in the relationship between everyone after they had just worked together so well. Under such circumstances, the next battle would only be harder. They couldn't be the cause of that.
Shen Lei looked around and motioned over to the younger disciples. "You're good at caring for Fen'er. Maybe try your hand at comforting them. They're all in shock but there is a tough battle ahead of us. They have to snap out of it or they'll be lying on the floor when we clean up next."
It sounded harsh to say it like this but this was the truth. This had only been a small battle. The only reason it had been tough to fight was because the expected situation didn't happen and they had to change their prepared plan at the drop of a hat. The small space didn't help and the levels on the other side were high, making it tough for the younger disciples to defend themselves and also putting a lot of pressure on the older disciples. And yet, such a skirmish was nothing compared to the battlefield they would soon face. If they weren't at their peak state, they would only be cannon fodder, slowing down their enemies for a short moment or two, senselessly losing their lives.
Luo Lin also looked at the younger disciples and nodded. He had nothing else to do and while he knew a lot less about fighting battles than Shen Lei did, he at least had a rough understanding of their situation. They indeed needed to pull the youngsters out of their daze.
Turning back to Shen Lei, he reached up to cup his cheeks. "That didn't sound like you'd come with me. What are you going to do?"
Shen Lei hummed and looked around. There were many people and not that many things they had to do urgently in this place. Half of the Elders were currently organizing a group to go and set up the place they later wanted to escape to so that they'd be prepared for the final battle. As a nascent soul stage cultivator, he should probably join them but he was afraid to leave Luo Lin here.
He didn't fear for his own life but he was afraid to lose the person he loved. During the fight just now, when he was locked in his own fight and Luo Lin was suddenly attacked, he felt as if his heart would stop beating. The panic he felt ... it was new to him.
He couldn't say whether he should call himself lucky that Luo Lin hadn't left the Teng Yong Sect much in the past so he had been spared from this experience so far or whether he should regret this fact because it meant he hadn't been prepared in the slightest when it hit him. Either way, he didn't want to experience it again and while he was far from the strongest in this war, being with Luo Lin at least raised his chances to survive by a big margin.
While there might not be any danger right now, they didn't know when the rest of the demonic practitioners would arrive at the underground palace. At that time, if he wasn't there, then Luo Lin would have to fight alone and wouldn't even be able to use his ability. That was too risky. Even if they split up to do their own tasks, they at least had to be in the same place so he could rush over as far as he could.
"I'll see if the Elders need me to do anything." He kissed Luo Lin and smiled before sighing. "I'll be back soon."
Luo Lin nodded and watched him leave before turning to the younger disciples. To be perfectly honest ... while it was true that he got along well with his little junior, he wasn't so sure about whether he could deal with the other younger disciples. After all, he had seldom interacted with them in the past. But then, his level was higher than theirs and that alone might help them calm down somewhat. Plus, compared to people like Zhi Guan who were hugging a sword everywhere they went, he had the kind of appearance that should be comforting. Yes, maybe he wouldn't do too badly.
Reassuring himself, Luo Lin finally walked over to the row of disciples leaning against the wall, still staring at the rows of bodies not too far away. He glanced over himself and saw that they at least seemed to have finished carrying people over so these should be all of their fallen disciples. There were definitely too many of them but things had now come to an end. That would always be easier to deal with than quietly watching more and more people being carried out.
