Shen Lei glanced at the ceiling above. There were a few cracks in the stone where the walls had been torn down but it didn't seem like it would collapse completely. If they were to continue attacking though, that would likely change soon enough. That also meant that their original plan had been a good one. Hopefully, they'd be able to make use of it later.

He retracted his gaze and focused on the person in front. After the other group arrived, the Elders of both sides started to face off against each other, leaving the disciples to confront those of roughly the same levels. The one he was fighting against right now was also at the nascent soul stage but the realm was slightly beneath his own. Unfortunately, he had to divert some attention to protect Luo Lin so they were tied more or less.

Luo Lin also realized that Shen Lei wasn't fighting with everything he had. He had seen him train with Zhi Guan so he knew that he could do more than this. He couldn't be sure if it was because of the situation or because of him though.

He furrowed his brows, still holding onto Shen Lei's hand. They couldn't get separated or his ability couldn't be used. But at the same time, this was likely what was holding Shen Lei back. If he got injured because of this ...

The image of Shen Lei's bloody figure flashed in his mind and his grasp on his hand slackened. He knew he could be of help but ... at this moment, he definitely wasn't. No, instead, he was making things more dangerous.

Shen Lei noticed that his lover suddenly wasn't holding onto him as tightly. He glanced at him but there was no time to speak. He gritted his teeth and swung his sword, imbuing some spiritual energy into the hit that pushed his opponent back.

He hastily pulled Luo Lin closer. "Hold on tight. Pay attention to your surroundings. Just throw attacks at whoever is in range. I'll deal with the rest." There were too many people from both sides for such a small room and the two of them hadn't fought together before. Luo Lin should be overwhelmed but there was no time to help him get used to this so these sentences had to be enough.

At that moment, the demonic practitioner already counterattacked, sending a burst of spiritual energy their way.

Shen Lei cursed and opened up a shield, stepping in front of Luo Lin at the same time.

Luo Lin furrowed his brows and hastily raised his other hand, putting up a shield himself. Even though he hadn't gone out much in the past, he wasn't like Yun Bei Fen. He at least knew all those skills in theory and his command of his spiritual energy had always been excellent. He wouldn't be able to fight against someone of a higher level but against same-level opponents, he could hold his own. In this fight, he should be able to help somehow. If only he could make use of his ability to do more ...

He took a deep breath to calm down and focused on keeping up his shield for now so Shen Lei would have to worry less. Then, he watched as his lover fought with the other person, closely following his moments so he wouldn't be a hindrance. He had to get a feeling for how Shen Lei fought while with him. If he did, that should allow him to do something.

Of course, it wasn't easy to suddenly develop this kind of understanding. After watching for a bit, he had to admit that he couldn't do it. He bit his lip and simply did as Shen Lei had told him: He looked for whoever else from the other side was close and soon spotted two demonic practitioners who had ganged up on one disciple of the Jian Chu Sect, almost driving that person into the midst of another group.

Luo Lin narrowed his eyes, gathered some energy, and aimed at one of the disciples' heels.

The demonic practitioner had been focused on the person in front and such an attack that wasn't actually aimed at his vitals didn't register before it hit.

He stumbled and the disciple of the Jian Chu Sect immediately used the opportunity to strike out. She received a hit from the other person in turn but only her shoulder was struck while her blade made contact with the other's throat. A worthwhile trade in this fight.

She whirled around and focused all of her attention on the other person now, finally not being at a disadvantage any longer.

Luo Lin smiled faintly and turned back to the front, checking how Shen Lei and his opponent were doing. In this fight, he was afraid to interfere. The other person could see all his moves and if he accidentally did the wrong thing, it might cause Shen Lei to be hurt worse. It seemed better to deal with more people around them so nobody else could join in their fight and pressure Shen Lei even more.

He glanced to both sides, trying to pick out suitable targets. He couldn't get fully involved in anything but he could be a distraction or hindrance. That would be the most helpful to disciples who were being pressured by two attackers. Right now, this was still the case for quite a few as the demonic faction was trying to break through on their side.

He casually picked out one of the groups that were fighting and once again aimed at a place that wasn't a vital point so he wouldn't be as easily detected. This time, he aimed higher though, and hit that cultivator's knee.

As expected, the person didn't just stumble but actually fell to the side before they managed to stabilize themselves. The eyes of the disciple fighting against them lit up and he stabbed the demonic practitioner while throwing a spiritual attack at the other one, keeping him at bay.

Luo Lin smiled to himself. It seemed that this way of doing things was working well.
