Elder Gong from the Pi Shi Sect was someone who cared neither about rumors nor about sarcastic remarks. Just fighting with your mouth was something only those without skill did, in his opinion. Thus, he cared little about what Elder Chang had said earlier and he didn't care about what Elder Yue was saying now. The other Elders sitting with them thought a little more though.
While the righteous side had the four great righteous sects which were allied and technically working together, or at least giving the impression that they were, while actually just mutually restraining each other, the remainder of the righteous sects were not too far off. Yes, they had fewer disciples and fewer talents because the great sects snatched those up early on. Yes, they also lacked resources more than those four did and received news a lot later than them. Still, life was good. After all, they had enough to develop and weren't restricted much.
Things were different in the demonic faction though. The border region and the land that lay behind it weren't as rich in spiritual energy or natural resources. As such, the fight for the things they did have was especially hard. They still wanted to get stronger and then fight back against the righteous faction, one day taking over the land on the other side of the border.
The issue was that even if they managed to get there thanks to the plan of Elder Feng from the Wu Yun Sect, they'd have more issues than the small righteous sects currently had. After all, their demonic faction had always played foul and there wasn't much in terms of mutual support. If someone could snatch a big piece for themselves, why would they give part of it to others? Doing so was stupid. Even loving couples wouldn't do this and would instead focus on getting better themselves, only using their newfound strength to protect the other person. This was simply how this place was.
As a result, while everyone had agreed to team up to deal with the righteous faction once and for all, they were naturally thinking about the life afterward already. The Wu Yun Sect had come up with this plan and Elder Feng was the only one who knew all the ins and outs. They would also be the ones to communicate with that person so chances were, they would receive preferential treatment after all of this was a done deal.
This was pretty much to be expected. Anyway, the Wu Yun Sect was already the strongest sect in the demonic faction today so even if they weren't the ones pushing this, they had the strength to grab the things they needed and wanted afterward. Nobody had thought they'd do anything else. Nobody would have dared to say it out loud though. Nobody but Chang Heng, that was, which gave more food for thought.
Chang Heng was the most prominent Elder of what could likely be considered the second-strongest sect after the Wu Yun Sect. He was well-liked as he was actually willing to help others but still not easy to fool or take advantage of. In short: If you were on Chang Heng's side, he would take care of you well and it certainly wouldn't be to your disadvantage. If you dared to be secretly against him, then you'd better prepare for a life worse than death which he'd have delivered to you one way or another, not even bothering to do things himself. There were always people willing to do his bidding.
Now, this person seemed willing to stand up against Yue Nuan from the Wu Yun Sect which might indicate he was willing to try and overthrow the sect itself after the matter with the righteous faction had been dealt with. This ... might be a good chance for them as well. After all, the fewer people there were to compete for the new resources, the more they'd have to gain from it. The question was just whether Chang Heng and his sect could actually do what he had in mind or if they'd get eradicated just like the righteous faction as soon as they tried.
The outcome would certainly depend a lot on the battle against the righteous faction later and none of them were willing to bet on who the winner would be just yet. They all took Yue Nuan's reaction into consideration though. Clearly, she had noticed, and clearly, she thought he was delusional. Maybe she already had a plan to deal with him. With the Wu Yun Sect, that wouldn't be surprising.
Either way, nobody wanted to commit yet but they all decided to pay attention to this going forward. As soon as the battle against the righteous faction was won, they'd check the situation again, make up their mind, and then do what they had to, to get as many advantages for themselves as they could.
While they were busy pondering the future, Elder Gong simply accepted Yue Nuan's suggestion so with that, the discussion officially came to an end.
Elder Gong got to his feet and looked at everyone, giving a faint huff. "Everyone choose the disciples to send then. I'll also bring ours, of course. We'll depart from the main hall in an hour. Don't be late." He didn't have the patience to wait for anyone to ask stupid questions or argue any further so he directly turned and left the room.
Chang Heng glanced at his back and slowly got to his feet with a smile as well. "Then I will take my leave to gather my disciples as well. There really isn't much time now." He inclined his head and then walked out, leisurely making his way back to the floor he and his disciples had been assigned.
Stepping into his room, he faintly raised a brow at the man sitting there. "It's just as expected. Another group will move out in an hour."
The other person gave him a lazy look and smiled. "So ... does Master intend to send me out as well?"
