Can you call yourself a fan if you don't know everything about your favourite idol?

Shuichi Saihara, a seventeen-year-old young man, asked himself this question a multitude of times when he developed quite an interest in an idol who was climbing the popularity ladder like it was nothing.

At first, it started with some of his friends commenting on this idol they'd seen around before. Some heard the music, others just heard rumours.

Shuichi wasn't too interested in musical artists. Any updates on that department would come from his friend group.

But once one of Shuichi's friends showed video of a live show starring this idol, Shuichi knew he'd be hooked.

This aforementioned idol called himself 'Dice'.

He looked young, his figure small and skinny, yet his movements fluid and bursting with expression.

He wore a breathable, performative suit, designed with elements from a straitjacket, splashed with glitter and reflective material.

His hair was a deep shade of purple, shoulder-length, curled at the ends, with short pale purple streaks starting from the ends, accompanied by dyed, long, white streaks reaching from his ends to almost his roots.

On his face was....a blindfold.
White, as expected, with purple embroidery at the edges. His vision wasn't obscured, which was plain to see as he moved across the stage of his performances, but his features weren't revealed.

Eyes are a big part of facial recognition, so with Dice's eyes hidden, his face was unfamiliar to his rapidly growing audience.

After Shuichi was first exposed to this idol, he did research.
He watched more videos from live shows.
He listened to the songs.
He found relevant information, available only because his fame had skyrocketed.

Dice was around the same age as Shuichi.
His voice was high-pitched, orotund, outside of the stage. During interviews or greetings to his fans.
But when he sang, it was smooth, angelic, honeyed.

He had everyone in a chokehold.
Men, women, teenagers, adults.
Shuichi was no exception.
He quickly became 'obsessed'.

He saved every song. Read each article. Rewatched each show. Purchased any merchandise that was starting to grace the shelves.
Shuichi loved Dice. He was his favourite idol. A fanboy, if you will.

With his inquisitive nature, Shuichi made sure to retain what he could about Dice.
His birthday.
How early he had to leave school to pursue this life of fame.
His favourite poses for the photoshoots.
Where he liked to stand on stages.
He knew almost everything.

Things were good...until....

"He what?!"A girl across the classroom gasped, burying her face in her phone.

"Yeah. He's taking a break from performing...", the guy beside her confirmed, a deep frown on his face.

Shuichi, sitting at his desk, was the embodiment of depression. His head was on the table, his face void of hope or emotion.

He saw it before anyone else.
The article appeared at 2:55 am.

Dice... was going on a short hiatus.

Why?
Apparently, for his development, Dice had to pursue something else in his life, though the article didn't specify.

Either way, it wouldn't matter.
There would be no new videos, songs, or photoshoots.
Shuichi would be starved of his idol for who knows how long.

All Shuichi had were some cute keychains depicting chibi versions of Dice to help him cope. What was he to do without constant stimuli from his beloved idol?
