It wasn't until I was on the road, driving aimlessly, that I got a call from a random number.

"Hello?" I asked hoarsely. It sounded like I haven't talked for ages.

"Angel, thank God," Luke's voice blasted through the phone and I immediately relaxed. The knot in my stomach dissolved and I felt like I could finally breath again. "I'm so sorry. When I got home, I told her we had to talk. I admitted to seeing someone else, and Jocelyn threw my phone against the wall and stepped on it. She told me to get out or she was going to call the police. I don't know exactly what they could have arrested me for, but I wasn't going to push the situation further," he explained.

"It was even harder to find a pay phone. Who the f.uck uses these anymore?" He laughed without emotion, and I smirked at his dry humor. "I just needed to know if you were okay."

"I'm fine," I said, "she kicked me out. I told her we knew she cheated on you, and she screamed at me that I was just as bad 'my stepfather'. Then she slapped me and I left,"

The line went quiet on the other side, so quiet I was afraid that it had disconnected.

"She...hurt you?" He after a couple moments, so menacingly that it sent a shiver down my spine.

"She slapped me across the face," I admitted, bringing a hand up to my cheek to only flinch at the feeling.

"I swear to God if I ever see her again..." He growled and I worried for his sanity.

"Luke calm down, baby." I could hear him breath heavily over the phone, trying to control the anger, threatening to explode. "It doesn't hurt much," I lied. It was still stinging, and it was bright red, but he doesn't need to worry more than he already was for me.

"I need to see you," he pleaded, "come stay with me for a few days, and we can figure all this out."

I was quick to agree, but I was afraid my mother would call out an alert for me being missing. She knows I would be with Luke.

Then again, I am an adult. She no longer has any hold over me. I thanked the Lord I was finally 18. If I had to return back home and reside in the same area as her, I'd probably go as crazy.

Listening to Luke's morose tone, I could tell he was blaming himself for all the shit that has been been going our way. I couldn't let him beat himself up like that.

"Where do you want me to meet you?" I asked softly, thinking of all the things we could finally do if we were alone again.

I knew he could hear the desire in my voice because he let out a breath, and I could imagine him biting his lip. "Fuck, Cami," he breathed into the phone, followed by a few seconds of silence, most likely of him thinking. "I'm sick of hotels. You know that cabin we used to go to during the spring?"

It was hard to recall, because Luke had only brought my mom and I there once, when they first started dating. It was in a secluded part of California, not far from San Francisco. It looked as if it actually belonged to a part of Georgia or something, with the thick forests and the rolling hills surrounding the structure. I nodded, but then remembered he couldn't see me. "Yeah, I think so, I'll see you there."

"I'll be waiting," he said, voice deep with impatience, as I heard the click of the phone hanging up.

I just realized that ever since I started talking to this guy more, my 5sos addiction had gotten so much less. Weird
