“… I know that it might sound more than a little … … crazy but I believe … … … … I knew I loved you before I met you. I think I …,”

“Clay, do me a favor and kick him out at the next light, will you?” Tris tried his luck but the guy wouldn’t even bother to acknowledge it.

“… I met you. I have been waiting all my life. … ”

“What the hell is with him?” Clayton queried exasperatedly while Adam went on with that song he’d been degrading since he got behind the wheel: actually, since the practice ended.

All three of Jeremy, Clay and Tristan were stuffed in the back while I was getting my ears full-on raped in the front seat.

“Leave him be, guys. I told you. The audition is tomorrow.” Jer intervened for his buddy who seemed to be pretending he was alone.

“So I’ve heard. That makes it what, … four of us in the concert?”

“… … in your eyes. I see the missing pieces. Searching … … ,”

“Six. Also Derek and Kevin. Don’t blame us. We all have our motives.”

“Yeah, to get a strenuous earbashing from Coach. I get you guys singing ‘cause you’ve never missed anything that involves a mic and a stage. I also get Derek going for it. What I don’t get is Alex and this guy.” Clayton clamored, probably jutting his chin towards Adam.

“I can’t say about Alex but for Adam,”

The ‘singing’ stopped. It actually stopped! Oh, pure heaven for my hearing!

“just … ”

“Jer, you son of ...”

“… ask Ellie.”

Elizabeth? He’s serious about her?

“Who’s Ellie?”

“Some girl fro...”

“Jeremy, if you still want that membership, shut your pie-hole right now!” his threat turned out to be a joke as the three in the back began killing themselves laughing.

“Shit, man! Look ahead. You’re driving.” Was my first contribution to the conversation. Adam then gave me this stupid sideways glance/frown before setting his eyes back on the road.

“Yeah, laugh, bastard. By the way, Clay, you know who Jeremy’s been crushing on since he got here?” Adam started, shutting up one of the hyenas: meaning Jeremy.

“Chirst, you guys are like an old couple! Adam, drop me off near that mall.”

“Well, who it is?” Tris queried, amused anticipation clear in our captain’s voice. And Jeremy in an effort to stop the sudden turn of the tide against him asked me where I was going.

“To get something to eat.”

“One you’d never connect to the word ‘girl’.”

“Okay, okay. Adam. I’m sorry. Shit, what was I thinking trusting you?”

“What was I thinking trusting you?”

Giving them a goodbye nod, I got out of the car shaking my head.

Twenty minutes and a terrible dinner later, I left the crappy diner. I actually could’ve got off at a nearer spot to the hospital but with this I wasn’t taking any chances. So it took me some time before I said hi to Betty in mom’s room.
