James walked briskly, an air of determination around him. Sirius' face was set as well. Remus lagged behind them.
Catching up, Remus called to his friends. They all stopped walking.
James turned around "What is it Remus? We're gonna be late."
"Yeah mate..fourth years don't get to make those 'i got lost' excuses anymore."
"James, Sirius, please don't do anything. Not today."
Two pairs of eyes blinked back at him. James frowned, and Sirius sighed, exasperated.
Sirius stood up straighter."Look, Remus, Professor Riggs is an absolute git. I don't care if the ugly prat has--"
James cut him off with a look.
"What Sirius is trying to say, Rem, is that we are going to hex him, turn his hair green, and throw dungbombs everywhere if he singles you out again."
"Guys, it's only been two weeks since school started, and I'm not asking you not to do any of those....Just, this lesson...it's a revision one...."
Sirius threw up his hands. "Exactly, Moony!"
Remus looked around frantically.The hallways were empty. "don't call me that!"
Remus sighed. "Please guys, please, just this lesson...The revision on lycanthropy, if you react, people might...they...I don't want to make a scene. Please, promise me you won't do anything, please."
James regarded his friend calmly. Remus had a point. Riggs was an awful person....even more awful to Remus, but causing a scene in class, especially this one, would be a bad idea. But he had a feeling, just a feeling, that this lesson, this idea, would have very different results.
"Okay Remus."
"What do you mean okay, James?"
"Sirius, drop it."
"So we just sit there, letting him--"
"We don't know what'll happen. After class, any other day, we'll prank him so hard, he'll want to quit. Not today, Sirius."
Remus nodded in agreement.
"Fine. Sure. Have it your way."
James looked at Remus. "Remus, I solemnly swear, as a marauder, that I won't react, retaliate, or do anything at all in Defense today." He shot a pointed look at Sirius.
Scowling, Sirius relented. "Yeah. Me too."
Remus smiled warily. "Thanks."
