Felix

"You can't drive that on your own. You'll get lost. I'll be worried sick."

Maxine sighed. "I know. But I can't let Julie take me. Or pay for a plane ticket or a train ticket."

"What's the problem?" Bloom peeked her head into my room.

I started to explain. "Maxine needs a ride to Chicago, and she needs to be there as soon as possible."

Bloom shrugged. "I'll take you. Felix, you can come along too. What's it? Ten hours?"

Maxine moaned. "Thirteen."

"Well, with the three of us, we can drive that, right? Take turns, stop and stretch and eat."

"Really?" Maxine smiled. "You'd do that?"

Bloom rolled her eyes. "You're practically like my daughter. Of course I'd do it. When do you want to leave?"

Maxine looked at my digital clock. "We could leave now and get there around eight tomorrow?"

"Let's leave in an hour, and we'll get there around nine. Sound good?" Bloom smiled.

"Thanks, Bloom, I really appreciate it."

Bloom left and I looked at Maxine. "Max, we're going on a road trip."

She smiled. "That we are."
