Maxine

I called Felix, doing so in the middle of the night. I had little hope he'd pick up, probably asleep like I should be.

I left a message, explain what had happened just a few hours earlier. I shook as I explained over the phone, then when it was all said, I paused, almost expecting Felix to respond.

I said goodbye, and hoped that he'd call me back.

I waited for a few minutes, then gave up. It was likely that Felix was asleep, and that he had no idea I even called. I doubt he'll ever even forgive me. I'm not sure I would, if the positions were reversed. I feel bad about it, an honest mistake. I just wish I could take it back.

I turned off the lamp and put my phone on the end table, curling under the sheets and shutting my eyes.

It felt like only minutes later, but I'm sure it was much more, when my phone rang, quite at first, but then growing louder and the phone continued to ring.

I picked it up, the sudden bright light blinding me for a few seconds before I answered. "Hello?"

"Hey, Max,"

I wanted to cry, hearing his voice, and knowing that he called me.

"Hey, Felix,"
