As the time went by Rose and Scorpius became close friends, Rose still only just managing to not blurt out that she was in love with him. They went out patrolling together every other night and before they knew it, it was December and Christmas was closing in. They had all learnt everything that the Ministry expects of the school so they don't close down, and everyone was happy.
"Good morning everyone" Flitwick announced at the end of breakfast "I hope you have all had a good year so far. We are reaching the last week of the first term shortly as you all know. Now at the start of the year I told you all that the teachers here have to make sure that all the students are happy for next term when the Ministry come round for inspection. The teachers have spoken to a good amount of students about this and they have all come to an agreement. To keep you all happy we have decided to hold a ball, similar to the Yule ball was held during the tri-wizard tournament. There will be two balls, one for years one to four and one for years five to seven. The first ball will take place next Wednesday and the second will take place next Thursday. If you don't want to come you don't have to, it's not customary but it is a way to enjoy yourself before the Christmas break. Okay everyone, I think that's it, off to lessons now" Flitwick got off his podium and everyone filled out of the great hall.
That lunch Scorpius, Rose, Albus, Jacob and Alec were all talking about the Christmas ball next Thursday.
"It's going to be amazing!" Rose sighed "Mum and Dad told me all about the Yule ball when they were in their fourth year, it sounded perfect! I can't believe I am going to go! It's so exciting"
"Of course you would be all hyped up on it Rosie, you're a girl, girls always get excited about this sort of thing!" Albus joked
"Very funny Al, so, who you guys taking to the ball?" Rose questioned
"What do you mean who are we taking?" Scorpius asked, confused
"Do you boys not know anything?" Rose laughed "Who are you going to ask to be your date to the ball? Who's the lucky girl you are going to dance all night with?" she joked
"Oh, I don't know yet.." Scorpius mumbled
"Better make up your mind quick, or everyone will be taken" Rose laughed once again
"I think I'm going to ask Pippa Vaisey" Jacob uttered
"Is she a Slytherin? I don't know her" Rose asked
"Yeah, she's a year above but we are good friends" Jacob explained
"Oo, nice Jacob, Alec, who you gunna ask?" Rose questioned
"I dont know really, deffinitely not Parkinson or Bletley, maybe Lavender Higgs or Prue Flint?" Alec explained
"Oh okay Alec"
"Maybe I just won't go at all" Alec muttered under his breath, but Rose heard him
"No Alec, you should come, it will be fun" Rose exclaimed "I'll be there... hopefully..."
"Why only hopefully Ro?" Scorpius asked
"Well, if I don't get a date it will be awfully embarrassing and I can't stand being embarrassed, so I won't go if no-one asks me, so that means I probably won't be going" Rose looked at Scorpius longingly and then turned to Albus as to not give anything away and asked him who he would be asking when he said he didn't know Rose got up and stated that she needs to go finish her Transfiguration essay and that she would be in the library if anyone needed her. She grabbed her bag and ran off.
Rose sat in the library thinking to herself. Half an hour passed and the library slowly emptied. It was getting near to the end of lunch so she started packing up her things and putting the books back on the shelves. When she turned around she saw Scorpius standing in front of the desk she was previously sitting at. His arms hung loosely by his sides and he looked fairly nervous. Rose walked towards him and picked up her bag which was sat on the floor next to him. He did not say a thing, he just stood there staring a Rose. After five minute Rose looked up at him
"Are you okay Scorpius?" She asked
"I...Uh...I just wondered...Would you like to... Would you maybe...Do you think you would like to..." he stammered in reply
"Spit it out, what are you trying to say?" Rose said, attempting- and failing- a joke.
"Wouldyouliketogototheballwithme?" Scorpius announced too quickly for Rose to make anything out
"What was that? I didn't get anything..."
"Would you... Would you like to go to the ball with me?" Scorpius asked and then sighed, finally being able to get it out and have Rose understanding him
"Oh Scorpius! I would love to!" Rose exclaimed as she flung her arms round his neck and hugged him
