Chapter 38

"Are you sure you don't want me to go to Professor McGonagall and tell her you can't go tonight?" Caia asked for what Rose thought was the thousandth time that night

"No Cai, I'll be fine, I just won't talk to him or look at him" Rose replied

"Stay a meter away from him" Aofie demanded strictly

"I wasn't exactly going to stand close to him was I?" Rose laughed

"Alright" Aofie and Caia said. Rose put the parchment she was writing on back in her bag and put it back into her dormitory. She sighed and walked back into the common room.

"I'm going now" Rose sighed, walking over to Aofie and Caia, who were sitting on the sofa

"Alright, just don't look at him remember" Aofie sighed, standing up and hugging Rose

"It'll be fine" Caia said, hugging Rose after "I'll stay up 'till you get back"

"Thank you guys" Rose said "bye" Rose forced a smile to her lips and walked over to the table Albus was sitting at

"Going?" Albus asked

"Yeah, I should be in about a minute" Rose sighed, staring at the floor 

"Good luck..." Albus sighed, pulling a seat out next to him for Rose to sit down on

"The girls say it'll be fine" 

"Yeah, but you know it won't be" Rose sat down on the chair next to Albus and hugged him

"I know..." the tears once again coming up into her eyes

"Don't cry Ro..." Albus hugged Rose back

"I can't help it" Rose sighed, wiping the tears out of her eyes

"I know, come on, you've got to go now" Albus pushed Rose off his shoulder and hugged her once more. He stood up and pulled Rose up with him "Come on, I can't say it will be fine because I know you'll come running back crying, but just try, he's an idiot remember?"

"But I love him" 

"I know... but he's an idiot... Just try to think about that!" Albus tried to laugh but he was almost as upset at Rose, he hated seeing her like this "Go on"

"See you later Albus" 

"I'll wait for you"

"Thank you" Rose forced a fake smile to her lips and hugged Albus again. She turned around and exited the common room

Scorpius was waiting for her outside the common room even though Rose wasn't expecting him too. He didn't say anything as they walked down the stairs to the first floor which Rose was happy about. They were silent for about an hour

"I'm sorry" Scorpius whispered

"Don't say that" Rose replied, whilst staring dead ahead of her, even if it was just a wall

"Why?" 

"It doesn't mean anything to you, you've said it too much" 

"It means an awful lot to me Rosie, I mean it"

"No you don't"

"I do"

Rose and Scorpius didn't say anything until the reached the second corner of the hall, the way they usually go. A clatter came from within a door to the right

"What was that?" Rose said, jolting her head to the right and stopping dead in her tracks

"I'll have a look" Scorpius passed Rose and pushed the door open with one hand, he stood in the doorway looking into the dark room

"See anything?" Rose asked, moving closer to the room

"No... Lumos!" Scorpius raised his wand and looked into the room, he couldn't see anyone

"Anyone there?" Rose asked into the room "Come out! We're prefects!" Nothing happened. Rose raised her wand "Lumos Maxima!" A bright light filled the whole room. There was two young boys, first years, standing in the corner of room staring into something opposite them. Rose stepped into the room to see what they were looking at. A mirror. A very big mirror almost as tall as the room.

"You should be in bed" Scorpius said, not taking any notice at what Rose was looking at and stepping forward to the two boys in the corner in the room "What house?" 

"Ravenclaw" the first boy said

"Hufflepuff" the second boy said 

"Ten points from each, now go to bed, if I catch you out of bed again I will give you detention-go!" Scorpius ushered the boys out the room and they ran down the corridor to their common rooms and then Scorpius joined Rose looking into the mirror "Woah!" he said as he looked into the mirror "Do you.... Do you see that?"

"Probably not" Rose said plainly, "everybody sees something different in this mirror- usually, unless two people- or more- really want the same thing, their hearts desire"

"What is this?" 

"I remember Uncle Harry and Dad telling me about this when I was little- it's the mirror of Erised... I thought Dumbledore got rid of it... Maybe Flitwick needed it for something... But obviously not the same thing, they can't be hiding the stone again because it's destroyed and-"

"Be quiet Rosie, I don't need to know the background story, the mirror of Erised? What's that?"

"Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi" Rose said, as if by memory, even though she could look up and read it from the mirror

"What sort of language is that? It's not latin... I don't think..."

"It's not a language, it's backwards- I show not your face but your hearts desire"

"Right Rose, just tell me what this is!"

"It's the mirror of Erised, it's a mirror that doesn't show you a reflection of you, it shows you your hearts desire, as I just said, I show not your face but your hearts desire"

"What do you see?"

"It's personal, I don't want to say" Rose said "Come on we need to go" Rose started to walk out of the room but Scorpius grabbed her wrist and pulled her back to the mirror

"I see us" he said

"What?"

"I see us, in the mirror, we are standing in the middle of the mirror with three kids in front of us, one girl and two boys, the oldest- the girl- has my hair but your beautiful face, and then the oldest boy has my hair again, but your beautiful face and the last boy, he's very little here, he has your lovely hair. Your parents are behind you, and their happy, then all your cousins, with their husbands or wives and then with their children, and they are all really happy, then my dad is behind me with Gran and they are happy too."

"Stop trying to make me happy and believe you are sorry, it's not going to work, come on, we have another hour to go" 

"Believe me Rosie! I'm telling the truth! Tell me what you see" 

"I see... My family all being together! Even the ones dead! Grandma and Grandpa in the back, their children: Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Dad and Ginny, then their children, my cousins. And then Tonks and Remus with Teddy, standing with Victoire and Bill and Fleur and Louis and Dominque, and anybody related to them, Dudley and River and McKenzie and Clarissa and their brother and their family and anybody else I... I love..."

"Am I in there?"

"Come on Scorpius, let's go" This time Rose walked out of the room and Scorpius followed her
