I looked around at the colorful posters.

A woman led me to the waiting room where Scott was waiting. He had a folder under his arm. I bit my lip. "What's wrong with me?" I whispered.

They had all been doctors. I could only assume it was because I was sick in some way. He smiled but it was off. He didn't seem happy. "Nothing Charlie."

Charlie... It had been my name but I really wasn't Charlie anymore. I was Puppy. But now he wanted me to be Charlie and I wasn't sure how to be Charlie. It felt like I didn't know who I was.

"It's time to get a puppy right?"

He gave me a tight smile. "It sure is."

He was talking funny. Slower. I smiled hesitantly and held out my hand. He stared at my hand before taking. "Are you sure I'm not sick?"

"Of course. Why do you ask?"

I drew back. "You're acting weird."

"No I'm not."

"You are! You just did!"

Scott sighed. "Look Pu-Charlie... Let's just got get you a pet hm?"

He sounded normal now. He waited until I nodded before taking my hand and leading me to the car. He put the folder in the glove box. I pulled it out as he started the car. "Don't touch things that aren't yours." He snapped.

I winced, putting it back. "I-I wasn't reading it."

"I know that. Just... It's rude."

I bowed my head. "Yes Scott."

We drove quietly for a moment before I spoke. "Y'know how we said we should change my name to Charlie? I don't...think I like it."

Scott frowned. "Would you like a different name."

"I want to be Puppy."

Scott looked at me. "But I thought--"

"I know you want me to be mature but-but I will be. I just... Puppy's who I am."

Scott sighed. "It's your choice I suppose."

He was upset. I sighed quietly to myself and we didn't talk until we got to the shelter. He got out and helped me out, leading me through the door. There was a black haired sub holding a squirming dog.

He smiled at us however. "Hi! You're Scott right?"

"Yes. We're looking to adopt?"

"Yes! You've been approved to pick out a pet so go ahead and look. This little guy just needs his medicine and I'll be down to help you."

"Alright. Come on Puppy."

I went with him down the aisle. There were animals on each side of all ages. I looked at each one with an air of excitement. Dogs of all different shapes and sizes jumped up to cage edge.

It made me miss my kennel a bit. In the back, surly cats occasionally meowed. One big black one with vivid green eyes locked eye contact with me, meowing over and over again. I knelt by his cage and he immediately began to rub against the side, sort of like Cat rubbed against me.
