That was Connor's voice.

I looked excitedly at the phone. "It's him!"

"Who's... Is this Puppy?" He sounded funny. Like he was tripping over his words.

"This is Puppy." I agreed.

Connor laughed. "Of course it is. Who else would call their old Dom."

Scott's brow furrowed. "Are-are you mad?" I asked.

"Oh right. Slow little Puppy. Either he's under your feet or he's crying in the corner."

Scott reached for the phone. I withdrew, confused. Tears filled my eyes. "I... I don't understand."

"Of course you don't. You don't know much at all. Stupid little Puppy. Can follow directions but God forbid you have to think for yourself."

Scott growled trying to take the phone. I hunched over it. "I don't know why you're being so mean."

"It's not mean. It's just what you are. I was supposed to be happy you were stupid. A good sub is one who doesn't know enough to disobey. I bet I could tell you the sky was purple and you'd just agree wouldn't you?"

"The-the sky's not purple. Some-sometimes it's pink but--"

"You're still my stupid little Puppy."

Scott took the phone away, hitting a button and putting it to his ear. I wrapped my arms around myself as he stepped outside the room, closing the door.

"You're drunk aren't you, you son of a bitch!" Scott snarled. "Fuck you."

I felt tears running down my face. It hurt. I didn't understand why he was being so mean. Scott came in and I slid off the bed. The longer I thought the more his words made sense.

He said I was stupid.

Scott told me I wasn't. Scott lied.

He said I was slow.

Scott told me I wasn't. Scott lied.

"Come here Puppy."

You're still my stupid little Puppy.

"I'm stupid. You said I wasn't! Now I sound even more stupid cos everyone knows I'm stupid but-but I think I'm not."

"Puppy look at me."

I shook my head, squeezing under the bed. It was cramped and I was safe. "I wanna go home."

"Puppy don't say that."

"I wanna go back to the auction house with Sir."

"No you don't. You've done so much work--you can't let this ruin your progress."

His words didn't make sense. Then again, they often didn't. I could see him crouching beside the bed. As my sobs increased I couldn't distinguish any sounds he made.

I tucked my head down into my knees. Scott reached for me. I slid out of his reach. He waited until I calmed down.

"We can lay here if you'd like." He said softly. "Just as long as you want until you're ready to come out."

"A-as long as I want?" I echoed.

He smiled. "That's right Pup. As long as you want."

"Can...can I have Milo?"
