"I did it Scott! Look!"

He smiled at me as I sat way up on saddle. My butt was sore. I had kept falling off. But I kept trying and now I did it. I was up here.

Scott smiled. "Very good. I'm impressed."

"Are you gonna go for a ride too?"

"Mm...not today. Today I want to teach you how to ride so we can ride together."

"Oh." I nodded my head. "Okay.
I'm here--what's next?"

"The hard part."

As the horse walked I was shifted from side to side. I hung onto the horn for balance. "What if I fall?"

"You'll get right back on. You can't be afraid--the horses sense it and will get nervous."

I nodded my head.

"So how do you feel?"

"Uhm sore."

Scott laughed as he ate his dinner. I was working on a cup of water but I'd spilled a lot. Scott was acting like I didn't. "You'll be sore the first few times. You have to get used to it."

I nodded my head and took the cup between my hands, bringing it to my mouth. I rested the brim on my lip, tipping the cup up. I lapped at the water, feeling it running down my chin.

"Can you tell me what's wrong with me now?"

Scott chewed and set down the fork. "Later. There's papers in the car I have to grab first."

"And we can do...stuff tonight right?"

"If you're still in the mood," he replied.

"In the mood?"

"If you still want to."

"Oh."

I look at the plate. "What are you eating."

He paused. "Buttered noodles. Terrible for my health but they taste good. Want to try?"

"Will it...hurt my tummy?"

"We won't know until you try."

He held out the slippery curve. I put it in my mouth and chewed on it for a while. I swallowed and sat back, hugging my tummy as I waited to see if it would settle. It did and I smiled. "It's...salty."

"That's the stick of butter. I really ought to stop eating like this. I'm not young anymore and working it off is exhausting."

I reached for the bowl. "Puppy I'm happy you want to eat food but reaching into people's food is rude."

I drew my hand back, scorned. "I thought...you were sharing."

"I am but you should still ask."

I sat back. "Can I have another one?"
