Logan's POV

Logan walked out of the boardroom after his morning meeting with his tail tucked between his legs.

That.  Went.  Terrible.

He just couldn't keep his mind off of what had happened early that same morning.

Not only had he not yet processed how he felt about overhearing that phone call, but then when you toss in all those sensory-overloaded memories of Rory that he relived last night...   It was no wonder why the man had lost his focus.

He had made a mess of his proposal, he kept getting distracted, he wasn't prepared to answer seemingly simple questions, and the looks being exchanged in front of him were just down right embarrassing.

On top of all that, he also knew his father would rip him apart as soon as he caught wind of the situation.

He raked his fingers through his hair, worried about what his short comings would mean for his future with this project.  He'd worked so hard on it from the very beginning, it hardly seemed fair that they would pull him off of it due to one botched meeting...

Well, come to think of it, the meeting before this one hadn't gone much better...  Or the one before that...

He had so much on his plate lately, that he realized he had dropped the ball at each and every meeting he's had with his biggest client to date.  And chances are, this was the last straw, and he would lose them.

"Shit" he realized.

Rory's POV

My mom and I walked into the house after a morning of shopping.  I carried some groceries into the kitchen as mom had set hers down by the desk in the hall to press the button on the last remaining answering machine known to man, which was virtually as old as Alexander Graham Bell himself.

"Hi Luke, and Lorelai!  I'm so thrilled that you're both back safely from your honeymoon!  Sorry I missed your call, I was at work, but I'd love to get together with you soon!  Actually, if you'd have me, I just think the idea of spending Thanksgiving with you all in Stars Hollow sounds fantastic - it's just so beautiful there!  Well, I need to run along for now, but I hope to talk with you soon!  I love you all!"

There was an ominous silence after the message ended.

"Who was that?" My mom asked cautiously.

"Well, I - I'm not sure, but it sounded an awful lot like Grandma" I said teasingly.

Mom just stood there in awe for a moment as she attempted to pick her jaw up off the floor.

"Of all things good and Holy, that woman sounded downright pleasant..." she said, still in shock.

I giggled, walking out of the kitchen with a bag of chips.  "I think that's because she is.  I've talked to her a couple of times since your wedding and that's just the way she sounds now.  So relaxed and so happy!" I said, popping a chip in my mouth.

"Huh" she responded, still not quite wrapping her head around the idea of her mother being pleasant.

"Just call her and invite her" I said, handing her the phone, and then walking to my room.

Logan's POV

There was a gentle knock on the door that had freshly been labeled with 'Logan W. Huntzberger, C.O.O.', which was basically an official beacon to let people know he was Mitchum Jr, and that he's next in line to take over whenever Mitchum decides to step down.

Logan looked up from his computer screen and laughed lightly.  "What are you doing here?" He asked in surprise.

"I heard you had a rough morning, and so I was hoping you'd want to go grab some lunch with me to take your mind off of it," Odette said softly, leaning herself against the door frame.

Oh, so now she wanted to pretend she's a decent person who is genuinely concerned about her future husband's well-being...he thought to himself.

He closed the screen of his laptop and looked up at her.  "Actually, lunch sounds great" he lied, grabbing his coat from the hook on the wall near his desk.

He placed his hand in the small of her back, guiding her out the door before locking up.

After they were seated and had ordered, there was an awkward silence that Odette seemed oblivious to.

Once their food came, Logan thanked the waiter politely and Odette looked slightly annoyed.  "That's his job, you know" she said amusedly.

"What?" Logan asked, unsure why she was making something out of nothing.

"Bringing our food, that's what he gets paid to do, that's why he's a waiter.  It's not like he did it out of the kindness of his heart or something" she said.

Logan cleared his throat and cut to the chase.  "So, I have a question, and I want a straight answer" he insisted.

She looked shocked, as if she truly believed that's she'd never not given a straight answer in her life.  "What's going on, is everything okay?" She asked.

"Who were you on the phone with this morning in the bathroom?" He asked bluntly.

"I didn't know you'd woken up" she said in surprise.

"Well, I did, and I'd like to know who you were talking to at three in the morning, inviting to Vegas" he kept on.

She smiled warmly.  "Aww, you're jealous, aren't you?  That's so sweet!  But there's no need, it was just my cousin, Dimitri" she insisted.

"You seemed awfully chummy for that to be your cousin, Odette" he said flatly.

She sighed and took his hand in hers.  "Look, I promise you, Dimitri is my cousin.  He and his girlfriend had been together a long time, they recently ended things, and he's been taking it really rough.  He called me, and I didn't want to wake you, so I took it to the bathroom.  I didn't think it would end up waking you up, so I'm really sorry it did" she said.

He wasn't sure what to believe.  Her story would make sense, except for that laugh - the one he just couldn't explain.

"Look, I would've told you sooner, but I honestly thought you'd been asleep the whole time, and it wasn't important enough to purposely wake you up for" she said.

"Well, you two seemed to be having a really good time for someone you said was so upset.  You sure we're spending a lot of time laughing.  It was actually that laugh that woke me up, not the ring tone" he said.

"Dimitri and I have gotten really close through the years.  I was just trying to cheer him up, and when I succeeded, he started trying to make me laugh too, which he's never had any trouble with" she said with a smile.

He nodded.  For what it was worth, she did seem to sound genuine.  He wanted to ask her about the horrible things she said about his friends, but decided to save that conversation for another time.
