"Hey there," Robert said, leaning casually in the frame when Paris opened the front door.

A smile spread across Paris' face as her eyes met his, and her smile was returned.  "Hey yourself," she said, almost shyly.

"Well, are you going to invite me in, or am I going to just sit here on your front porch all night?" he asked with a chuckle.

She laughed and ushered him inside.  This was the first time she'd invited him over, and she was really nervous about it.  "I brought dinner," he said, holding up a take-out bag for her to see.

"Oh good!  I'm starving!  I haven't had a second all day to stop and eat" she said.

"Busy day at the office?" he asked, sitting down on the couch, and taking containers from the bag, setting them on the coffee table.

"We always get a surplus of business around the Holidays, so we've been working 'round the clock, trying to make miracles happen for families who can't make them happen for themselves," she said.

"I like that, is that your slogan?" he asked.

"No, I mean, I tossed the idea to the advertising firm that we use, but they didn't think it sounded like a good fit," she said.

"That's crazy; it's catchy, and I like it.  You do realize I own one of the largest advertising firms in the country?" he asked.

"Wow, I had no idea," she said.

"Well, if you're interested in going another direction, let me know.  I'm very good at keeping my personal and professional lives separate, so don't think it would complicate anything.  Even if nothing comes of you and me, it would have nothing to do with working with you.  Although, I probably would hand the case off to someone else, but that's beside the point" he said.

She nodded.  "Good to know, thank you," she said, wondering how to curb this slightly awkward small talk.  She knew she needed to make or break this conversation quickly so that she knew what she was up against.  "So.  Let's talk politics"

Rory's POV

"Wow, I had no idea you had feelings like those with your oldest," I said to Honor.  She had come by specifically to see me.  She said she felt terrible after the way we left things at the hospital, and then after what happened, it had been eating away at her and she wanted to fix it.

She bobbed her head slowly in acknowledgment.  "I didn't tell many people at all, for reasons I'm sure you can understand.  I didn't even tell my own parents.  Well, you know how they are, you've met them" she said with a laugh.

"Yeah, that I have.  They're a real piece of work, those two.  But your secret is safe with me, Honor.  I promise, I wouldn't tell that to anyone.  You are an amazing person, and you shouldn't have to walk through life with that defining you.  You're so much more than that temporary feeling" I promised her.

She nodded and hung her head as she spoke.  "I know none of this is ideal, and I feel awful for the things I said to you, and it's been eating away at me ever since I left the hospital, but then so much happened between then and now, I just wanted to give you some time to heal a little before I came around again.  You're so much stronger and more equipped to handle it than you think you are – way more than I ever could be.  I just hope you don't let what happened keep you from bonding with your child.  Don't make the same mistakes I did.  It might be a completely different situation – especially now – but just because this wasn't a part of your Life Plan, that just means it's time to create a new one, which is a million times better than you ever imagined because of all of the wonderful things a child adds to your life" she said.
