Another Galaxy

15 2 8

When I lie awake at night

Stars, constellations, galaxies fill my head

I think like the Mariana Trench––

Deep, and the darkest thoughts I've ever wondered sometimes.

I am a deep person.

But the galaxies and wonders fade

as soon as I attempt to share them with others

They shrivel on my tongue,

and so I say nothing.

I am seen as shallow

and silent.

These words of ours are insufficient indeed.

But there is life,

Even in the deepest of places.

If only they could see

the galaxies my mind conceals

because just like our own trenches

there is much, much more to me

Than meets the eye.

For now, however,

As the daylight grows in strength,

My galaxies fade.

I remember them no more,

except for the memory of having them.

That alone

gets me through the day

so that when I return to midnight thoughts,

I can remember why I chose to stay

again,

and again,

and again.
