It had been 5 days since Hanukkah as I looked out the window at the Puckerman's to see snow coming down from the sky. Tomorrow was Christmas so it looked to be a white Christmas this year which was always one of my favorite parts of the holiday. Growing up, Frannie and I used to build a Snowman every year and make snow angels, much to the dismay of my parents who found us lying in the snow to be 'improper', not that it mattered to me or Frannie.

I thought to what must be going on at my house. My mother was probably slaving away in the kitchen to make the perfect Christmas meal for tomorrow. My relatives were probably coming in to visit like they had always done each Christmas. This would be the first time I wouldn't be with my family for the holidays and truth be told it saddened me. Sure, most of the time having to spend the holidays with my family seemed like a drag but not having them in some ways felt even worse.

Part of me longed to have the breakfast feast my mom would make every Christmas Eve. Pancakes, Bacon, Eggs, Sausages, and Croissants were all served in the morning as we would look at the nativity scene one last time under our tree before we would put the Baby Jesus in the manger on Christmas Day. That night we would typically go to the Christmas Vigil Mass which went on until about Midnight to celebrate Christmas Day with the other parishioners. Those were the things I would truly miss this year. I prayed to God to forgive me for not going to mass, especially Christmas Mass which had always been so important to me. Most of all, I prayed for my family, especially my sister to have a good holiday.

My thoughts were then interrupted by Puck who sat beside me. "Hey," he began. "Hi," I smiled at him. "So what are you doing exactly?" he asked as I chuckled. "I was just watching the snow come down," I said as he nodded. "Looks like it's going to be a White Christmas," he observed. "Yeah. It does," I smiled a bit. "Speaking of Christmas...I got you something," he said as he handed me a gift much to my shock. "You didn't have to get me anything," I told him shaking my head. "I wanted to," he smiled at me "Look I know this is your first Christmas away from your family and I wanted to make sure you know you mean something to me." "This is really thoughtful. Thank you," I smiled holding the present in my hand, taking in the fact that he had be so thoughtful as to get me something.

"Aren't you going to open it?" he teased. "Of course I am," I laughed as I began to unwrap the present. What I found was a beautiful set of Ruby earrings. "These are amazing," I said still in shock by the fact that he had bought me something so perfect. July was my birth month and red was one of my favorite colors so it felt fitting to have those earrings. "I remember you mentioning how much you wanted those earrings. So I saved up to get them for you," he told me as I couldn't help but feel touched by how generous his gift was. I hugged him tightly. "Thank you," I smiled as I pulled away. "You're welcome," he smiled. I put the earrings in. Feeling more at home than I had before.

Just then his mom walked in. "Quinn, you've got some mail here," she said as she handed me a letter. I was surprised to get anything at all. I read the address label, it was from Frannie. I opened the card carefully as I read the message. "Quinn, I hope you have a Merry Christmas. We're going to miss you so much at the holiday party. Christian and I will be in Lima for the next few days until New Years. We would love to see you. Please let me know if you can meet up with us. Love, Frannie." It read.

I couldn't help but tear up. I was finally going to get to see my sister. It truly was a Christmas miracle. I then messaged Frannie "I got your card. Thank you so much for the well-wishes. I can meet up with you. If you could pick me up whenever you want to meet I'd be glad to see you :)" I replied as Frannie quickly responded "Great :) How about the 26th?" "Works for me :)" I replied, relieved. It felt good to know that I didn't lose everyone.

Christmas came and went as the 26th approached. I heard a bell ring. "I'll get it," Abby said chipperly as I followed her. "Hi," she beamed up at Frannie. "Hi. Is Quinn here?" Frannie asked. "Yeah, come on in," Abby said as Frannie entered the home. I quickly hugged my sister glad to see her. She hugged me back. "You two look alike," Abby said. I smiled a bit "Abby this is my sister, Frannie," "Nice to meet you," Abby grinned. "Likewise," Frannie smiled a bit. Frannie and I headed out for the day to catch up.

"So how are things, Q?" she asked as I sighed. "Like everything else there are good days and bad days," I replied as we entered into the Starbucks we had once grew up going to. It felt nice to be somewhere familiar as the smell of holiday cheer filled the air. I ordered bacon for the first time since living at the Puckermans since all pork based food was banned due to it being against their religion. It made me sad since bacon had always been one of my favorite things to eat for breakfast. Frannie nodded understandingly as we got our food and sat down. It was silent for a bit before Frannie asked the question I knew she was dreading to ask "So are you and the father together?" I shook my head "But he's been kind enough to let me live with him," I told her. "Q, you shouldn't have to do this on your own," she told me shaking her head. "I'm not," I assured her "Look it was my choice for us not to be together. He wanted to but...it was too soon."

Frannie didn't seem to understand why I wouldn't want to be with the father but she didn't ask any more questions. She decided to change the subject. "Are you keeping her? The baby I mean," she asked as I shook my head. "She deserves to have her best chance in life. I couldn't do it on my own. I want her to go to a family that will love her and cherish her, you know," I said. "I get it. You're doing the best thing for the baby," she told me. "I know," I smiled a bit. We ate our food before heading out for the day.

"Where do mom and dad think you are?" I asked as Frannie chuckled a bit. "I told them I wanted to meet up with some friends here," Frannie said. I nodded. It seemed plausible especially since Frannie grew up here. "How has college been?" I asked her. She smiled a bit "It's going really great. I've been working hard on my degree and will be graduating this summer," she smiled. "Frannie, that's great," I smiled. "How about you? Has everything been okay at school?" she asked me. I shrugged "Besides everyone just talking about me being pregnant I guess it's been okay. I've worked hard to keep my GPA up. I want to be able to get out here, make something of myself. It's part of why I can't keep the baby," I sighed as Frannie nodded, understanding exactly where I was coming from.

"I'm proud of you Q, I always knew you would be the one to make something of yourself," Frannie smiled. "You really thought that?" I asked touched. "Of course I did. You always had your sights set high. You didn't stop until you were captain of the cheerios. You've always had the ambition," Frannie said as I grinned. It meant so much to hear her say these things about me, especially since I looked up to her growing up.

We soon had to part ways as Frannie dropped me off we said our goodbyes. "Thanks again for today. I missed you," I smiled. "Anytime. See you around," Frannie smiled as she drove off. I waved goodbye feeling like I had gained so much in spending time with her that day.

I rang the doorbell as Puck answered this time. "Hey you're back," he smiled a bit. "Yeah...I just spent the day with my sister is all," I smiled as I walked back inside the Puckerman house taking off my boots and jacket and neatly hanging them up. "Cool," he said. I walked inside with him feeling something different that before. After everything he had done for me could it be I was falling for him again? I couldn't shake the feeling that maybe I was wrong to turn him down about getting back together. I didn't know how but I had to tell him somehow.
