"you're going to complicate things"

Thomas' POV

(y:n)'s laugh sounded through the phone.

"That was perfect!" She exclaimed excitingly.

"I know, I'm good." I grin.

"She seriously pointed out your hair?" I smiled hearing (y:n) laugh out loud all over again.

"Seriously." I repeat.

"Oh goodness, I'm not ready for tomorrow, she's going to smack the answers right out of me."

"I suggest you call in sick."

"Pft I don't take sick days."

"Woo wee, miss."

"Wha—What?" (y:n) giggled.

I chuckled.

"Is that a British expression?"

"Mmm, it's American actually."

"act-shulee" she mimics.

I shake my head "are you making fun of me love?"

"I am, actually."

"Very sweet of you."

She clicks her tongue "What can I say?"

(Y:N)'s POV

Thomas was about to speak when my phone began to vibrate. I pulled the phone away from my ear, spotting moms incoming call.

"Thomas I'm going to have to call you back, my mums calling."

"Don't worry, say hello for me will you?"

I sighed, "Yes Tom." I heard the call end as I tapped the green button on my phone.

"Mama?"

"MIJA these pictures!!!" I chuckled into the device. I had emailed the pictures of Thomas and I to mom last night.

"Did you two sleep with each other?"

"Ma!"

"I'm just asking! He's looking at you like you just gave him the best sex of his life."

"MA!" I honestly didn't know this woman.

"Well did you?"

"No, and he says hello."

"Oh hi!" I hear mom yell.

I laugh out loud, "He's not with me mom."

"Oh."

"I was on the phone with him a bit ago."

"I'm going to print these pictures out and frame them."

"Please don't."

"Why? I want my visitors to know my beautiful daughter has a British actor as a boyfriend. A good looking one too."

"Mom? Uh, he's not my boyfriend."

"Not yet."

"You're forgetting Lucas."

"I suggest you do too."

"Oh my goodness woman!"

"Que? I like Thomas." I felt mom grin through the phone. I like him too, I thought.

"And besides it's not like you're dating Lucas."

"I'm not but I'm still going on that date with him."

"You're going to complicate things if you do (y:n)."

"No I won't, I'm not dating either of them."

"Alright, don't say I didn't warn you."

"I can't just not give Lucas a shot."

"okay. But I'm still framing those pictures."

I groaned.

"So if you two didn't go at it then what you do?"

"Uh, talk?"

"That's boring."

"It wasn't! He's a good listener and pays attention quite well."

"And you still want to go on that date with Lucas because?"

I squeezed my eyebrows together with my fingers. "Because ma, it's rude to turn down the dude."

"Just tell him you got a novio."

"I'm not going to lie ma."

"If you can lie to me during your teenage years I'm sure you can lie to your librarian."

"Ouch."

"Well, do what you like, who you like, but I'm telling you now, Thomas tops Lucas."

"Wow, confident."

"He reminds me of Danny Mija."

I swallow, my moms nickname for my dad echoing in my head.

"He does?"

I hear mom sigh before speaking.

"Your dad was a good listener. He didn't have to reply to everything I said for me to know he was paying attention. He would just, look into my eyes, smile and nod."

I smile, remembering the night before. The way Thomas' eyebrows furrowed as he nodded. The way his eyes would look at my lips and eyes as I spoke.

"Thomas looks at you the same way your dad used to look at me. And he gives out the same comforting vibe your dad used to give out. I'm sure he's a quiet and laid back man just like your pa." Mom paused for a few seconds before speaking again.
"And it took months of just talking before your dad actually got in bed with me so there's that too."

I managed to chuckle along with mom.

"I love you Mija, let me know how your date with Lucas goes okay? Tell Thomas he has my blessing."

I scoff as mom giggles. "Tell him to take good care of you for me okay? We'll talk soon."

"Okay mama, I love you." I say, ending the call.

I sat for a few minutes, thinking of dad before picking up the phone, dialing Thomas.

"Guess who woke up grumpy?" I hear Thomas say almost instantly.

"I'm guessing, hmm?" I mumble.

"Ava." Thomas whispers.

"Woo wee." I whisper back.

I smile, Thomas' laugh filling my ears.
