after a summer break of ice cream, movie nights, and star gazing, yue, kai, beomgyu, and yeonjun returned to school for their second semester of their second year of high school. the four had agreed to all walk together for the first day, so yue was hurrying out the door as quickly as possible because she was already late.

"yue, don't forget your lunch!"

she quickly ran back to her grandmother, her, now shoulder-length, hair sticking up in some places.

"you're just a mess this morning, aren't you?" her grandmother chuckled, fixing the stray hairs, while placing the lunchbox in her hands, "i made your favorite for you. have a good first day, okay?"

"thank you, halmeoni, i will!" she put on her shoes, rushing down the stairs and out the building.

"there she is," kai pointed, and the two other boys followed his finger, watching the slightly disheveled girl hobble towards them as she tried to finish lacing her shoes up. "yah, if we're late, i'll never let you live it down!"

yue sighed, reaching the sidewalk, "sorry, i overslept."

beomgyu chuckled, walking beside her, "the first day back and you've already slept through your alarm."

"yeah, who does that?" yeonjun jumped in between them, ruffling her hair.

beomgyu fought the urge to roll his eyes, and stuffed his hands into his pockets. all summer, yeonjun had been sort of clingy to yue. so much that it had started to make beomgyu feel like his toes were being stepped on. and he hated that feeling.

and yue being yue, she didn't notice at all.

"shut up," she chuckled, lightly punching his arm. "wow, i can't believe we're already in our second year of high school."

kai nodded, throwing an arm over her shoulder, "and guess who's trying out for the basketball team," he used his other arm to flex his almost nonexistent biceps. he leaned forward a bit to look at beomgyu, "you're trying out with me, right?"

"oh my gosh, beomgyu is gonna actually participate in something?" yue asked, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

beomgyu shrugged, "i don't know-"

kai stood in front of him, "no, you promised! no backsies, man."

beomgyu sighed, letting his head fall down, before slowly bringing it back up to meet kai's hopeful eyes, "fine."

kai began to fist pump, running forward to the school building, which they had actually reached rather quickly.

"stop right there!" all four of them froze in their places, "give me your name and class, right this instant."

they each groaned inwardly, the boys because yue had actually made them late, and yue because she knew kai would really never let her live it down.
