You all had begun to investigate the areas you had marked out. Nothing had given you anything yet. Not even clues. You could only cross off the places you'd been. you were getting frustrated with it. You wanted to solve the case more than anything now.

You got home that night and sat down on the couch. Your knuckles had turned white from your fists being so tight. Connor noticed this. He walked over and sat down next to you. You didn't look at him. Your LED was still bright red as he came over. You almost didn't even notice he was there.

"(Y/n)," You still didn't look at him. "(Y/n), look at me." You sighed and turned toward him. Your harsh gaze softened as you saw his expression. It was one you knew well. One you remembered. He had a soft and forgiving smile on his face and his eyes were shining with compassion. "It's alright. You don't have to be the one who solves this. You're helping and that's what matters. I'm also just relieved that you haven't run straight into danger again. I don't want to lose you." Your LED went back to yellow, but you said nothing, feeling more disappointed in yourself than angry. He cupped your cheek, lifting your gaze back to his again. "I need to be honest with you, I miss how you used to be. I know that who you are now isn't your fault, but I don't care if you're like this for the rest of our lives. I just have to let you know." He leaned in and gave you a gentle kiss. It only lasted a moment, but you felt your heart jump slightly. Why does that feeling give me deja vu? He pulled away and you stared at him, unsure of how to respond. "I'll always love you, no matter how you feel about me." Your LED went back to blue and you nodded.

"I...I know. I'm...sorry." You didn't really know what else to say to him. He hugged you and you made an attempt to give him a proper hug back. Still...it felt so wrong. You felt wrong.

"It's alright. As long as I get to see you every day, it'll be alright." You nodded.

"Okay." He let go and went to go feed the cats. You felt even more distant now. What...what am I? You looked at your hand as you let the skin fade away. You sighed. No. I can't get caught up in this. Lives are at stake. Our freedom is at stake. I have to focus on my goal. I have to accomplish my mission.

Mission: Solve the Case...No Matter What.

Gavin's POV

I was at the station with Collin. We were the only ones left there. I had been working late, but then I just decided to stay a while because I liked the quiet. The station honestly was a nice place to be when it was silent. Plenty of space to move around, the quite I wanted almost all the time, and nobody to tell me what to do.

"Hey, tin can." Collin looked over at me.

"Yes, Detective?"

"Get me a coffee, would you?" He nodded silently and got up without a word. As he walked away, I honestly wondered if he was okay. He'd been acting like this for a while. I knew I shouldn't have cared about it after what he did, but...I couldn't help it. I honestly kinda missed having him at my place. He at least gave me somebody to talk to. Still, I wasn't going back on what I had decided. I wasn't going to get tangled up in a stupid game of ring around the rosy with a fuckin' android. I wasn't going to wash, rinse, and repeat with him. I learned that lesson a long time ago. End it before it becomes a pattern. But no matter what I said I was going to do, something was compelling me to ask. Something was telling me to...care. I didn't want to, I truly didn't, but no matter what I wanted, I was still getting the same result. I was still getting the same feeling.

Collin came back with the cup soon enough and I almost had to actually bite my tongue to keep myself from speaking. He just folded his hands on his desk and stared at them, looking slightly sad and very...submissive almost. He just looked...defeated. I frowned at this. Don't you dare say anything. Leave it alone. Leave it the fuck alone!
