bill's p.o.v:

" how did a volleyball even manage to get here?!" stan exclaimed exasperatedly, yanking a volleyball out from somewhere it'd been wedged behind a bench and a wall. i simply shrugged my shoulders, preferring not to speak. i usually either got criticized for my stutter, or talking too softly. it's not like stan would ever make fun of me, no, but i still would rather just stay silent.

ms. birdie had asked stan and i to stay behind after class to clean up, since dodgeballs had been scattered all of the vast gymnasium. she knew stan and i were too nice to say no, so it was a good plan. plus, we'd been planning on skipping chemistry, our next class which we had together, anyways so it didn't matter if we took awhile.

i tossed the, hopefully, last burgundy dodgeball into the large metal crate in the corner. stan skipped over and shut it, before grunting quietly as he pushed it into the storage room. i twiddled aimlessly with my gangly fingers as i awaited his return, watching him gently shut the storage room door before turning to me with a smile soft enough to make my heart melt. i was quick to catch my blush before it crept up my neck.

" reddie to change?" he asked, already skipping towards the boys change room. i scrambled to keep up with him, nearly tripping over my untied left shoelace a couple times whilst doing so. he held the door open for me once he got to the change room, his eyes twinkling as he glanced up at me. i was only a few inches taller then him, but it was noticeable up close.

i blushed slightly, smiling weakly. " th-tha-thank you." i stammered, blushing profusely at how horrendous my stutter got around him. i turned my head down, blowing some of my auburn hair out of my face, as i bustled into the change room. by then it was empty, which soothed my anxious nerves a small bit.

i always did despise changing in front of others. while everyone in my eleventh grade gym class seemed to have grown up, maybe more physically then mentally, i seemed to have stayed the same small boy i had been when i graduated elementary school. maybe taller, yea, but nothing else.

stan however, had grown up a lot. his hair appeared to have curled up more, as well as darkened from its dirty blond to a deeper brown hue. his face had grown more slender and shaped, and he'd gotten curvier in all the right places. i looked like a cardboard box standing beside him. it was hard sometimes, being next to a literal model.

" i think i might shower, you know." stan said, as we walked towards the back of the change room, to where our lockers stood. he gently pulled his locker door open, reaching in and pulling out his fresh pair of khakis, a lavender polo and some small white boxers. i flushed a little at the sight and looked away, internally scolding myself for getting so worked up. " we're skipping chem, so we've got a ton of time. and no one else is here so."

i nodded in agreement, knowing i probably smelt bad after whipping ball after ball at the opponents on the opposing volleyball team. it's not like i ever hit them, but every time i missed stan would giggle, and i'd do just about anything to hear that angelic laugh. i pulled open my locker, the door creaking on its hinges. i grimaced, quickly retrieving my red short shorts and yellow vest.

" i've got a spare towel you can use by the way." stan said softly, as i shut my squeaky locker door. i turned to look at him, my heart fluttering uncontrollably in my chest. he had on the brightest of smile, holding two baby blue towels in his hands with his clothes tucked under his left arm. he slowly extended one of the towels out towards me.
