Chapter 10: Before The Storm Arrives

Rene POV

I don't know how much longer I can keep running through this dense forest. The moon is hidden behind clouds, making the night even darker and more menacing. Heavy footsteps pound the ground behind me, and I know my pursuer is closing in.

Desperation leads me to a cave, and I quickly duck inside, hoping it will provide some cover. Slowly and quietly, I move further into the cave, feeling the jagged walls with my hand. Something warm and sticky coats my index finger, and I nearly scream in fright. Glancing around in the darkness, I see red, glowing words on the ceiling: Do you see what I see?

Confused by the message, I look back down and am met with a pair of bright, gold eyes with red rims, devoid of pupils. The creature's shark-like teeth glow ominously in the dark. My mind screams for me to run, but my feet remain rooted to the ground. The creature, taller and more imposing than I had imagined, takes slow, deliberate steps toward me.

"Oh no! No! No!" I panic, closing my eyes and reopening them.

"Rene," it growls, pronouncing my name with chilling familiarity.

We were now face to face, and I knew I had to act quickly. It grabbed me, and I screamed, kicked, and punched, but nothing seemed to work. "Wake up!" a voice roared, reverberating through the cave. Suddenly, a sharp pain struck my back, forcing a scream from my mouth. I opened my eyes to see Tristan standing over me, his face unreadable.

"Master?" I stammered, my voice trembling. He rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed.

"Do you have any idea what time it is? I couldn't sleep because your frantic heartbeat was going wild. So, I came in here to see what was going on," he explained, his tone hinting at a slight concern, but more likely, he was just frustrated.

"Sorry," I mumbled, feeling a mix of fear and embarrassment.

"I know you're sorry, slave. I didn't realize my pretty slave likes to sleep in a t-shirt ," he said, his eyes turning an unsettling orangey color with a hint of red.

I got up from the floor and sat on my bed, looking away from those eerie eyes. He sat next to me, loosening my ponytail and running his fingers through my thick hair. His eyes reminded me of the one in my nightmare. Could this be a warning? I didn't have much time to think as I felt his lips on my throat.

"Your blood has been calling me all night, slave. I need a drink to silence the thirst I feel," he whispered. For some strange reason, I felt compelled to give in to him.

"You've been a good girl, slave. Perhaps I'll make the bite less painful."

With those words, Tristan didn't waste any time sinking his fangs into me. I felt his fangs gently pierce my skin and, surprisingly, a wave of pleasure washed over me. This couldn't be Tristan. Tristan seemed the type to never be gentle with anyone, yet here he was, doing just that. His fingers tangled in my thick hair while his other hand rested on my waist, wrinkling my shirt. He withdrew his fangs from my neck and stared at me.

"Sleep," he commanded, and I fell into a deep slumber.

Next Day

I lounged in the kitchen with Tammy, casually munching on a sandwich and apple. "How's it going, Rene?" Tammy inquired between bites of pizza.

"Surviving," I replied with a half-hearted shrug, opting to keep my deeper thoughts to myself. Dana and Janice breezed into the kitchen and settled in beside me.

"Hey," I greeted them with a smile. "How are you two?"

Janice, beaming, took the spotlight. "Oh, I'm great, Rene! Julius took me shopping. Check out my new outfit!"
