It has been a few days since my breakdown with Sora and I refused to talk about it with him even though he had brought it up twice now. My mother and Adam were on their way home, Kai's words, and I couldn't help but felt the need to run away because the more I lived in this house, the more suffocated I got.

I glanced up at the clock that was situated just above the oven, reading it as half past ten. The clocked ticked by agonising slowly as my feet repeatedly jumped on its spot, leaving my fingers to fumble with each other as I chewed on my lips.

"We're home!" was the first two words I heard from my mother the second the front doors slammed open, making me jump in my seat.

I waited for a few seconds to see that my mother was waltzing inside the kitchen with a shawl wrapped around her shoulders as she took off her sunglasses and gave me a bright smile as if she hadn't just left her only daughter at home for a few days without a phone call or a message.

My eyes raked her up and down and there was no evident on a baby bump yet but my mother sure acted like she was already carrying a fifty pound child. She glided over to the snack cabinet and took out a packet of chips and cookies before setting them down on the counter.

"Did you get my note?" my mother asked, glancing over her shoulder at me with the same wide smile.

I nodded. "Yes. Congratulations."

My mother then turned around to face me, carrying the packet of chips in her arms as of it was a newborn. "Why do you say it in such a monotone voice? Aren't you happy for me?"

Internally sighing, I plastered on the fakest yet biggest smile yet, "Congratulations, mom!"

She must've bought it because she squealed in excitement. "Adam wants it to be a boy but I want it to be a girl."

I nodded, slowly. "I see."

"Anyways, his parents are coming over soon and we're going to tell them over dinner," my mother explained as she popped another chip inside her mouth, her words sending a slight pang to my heart.

I forced a smile. "That must be exciting."

My mother nodded in agreement, her eyes widening behind me in excitement and when I heard the heavy footsteps, I already knew who it was. Adam, as tan as ever, appeared by my mother's side with a hand resting on her stomach as he gave her a kiss on the cheek. "You need to rest, babe. Come on, let's get you to bed."

My mother pouted at him as she exaggeratedly sighed before Adam led her out of the kitchen without a single word to me and my mother without bidding me goodnight or asking how I was. In my peripheral vision, I spotted Kai eyeing me as if trying to study my emotions but I completely blanked my expressions and retreated back to my room.

Putting on my headphones and blasting some music, I felt the world drown away as I resorted to my study desk and began looking through my textbooks. I knew I was going to be here all night.

"Lucinda, we need to talk to you," was the first thing I heard the minute I walked down the stairs, books in hand seeing as my first mid-term test was held today.

I glanced up from my textbook to see Adam and my mother sitting at the dining table, faces adorned with fake-concern all over their faces. The only thought that was running in my head was the fact that I needed to study and prepare for my test and that if they spring any more surprises on me, I swear I was going to lose it.

"Yes?"

Adam stared at me, unfazed. "We plan to move to Miami once the baby arrives."

I raised a brow, closing my textbook loudly, the echo bouncing off the walls as I stared at him back. "And?"

Adam casted a glance over to my mother who was watching my every move before returning his attention on me. Tread carefully, Adam. "And seeing as you'll be in college and in a dorm, you wouldn't mind, right?"

Ah, so quick to assume that I wouldn't mind. This was equivalent to them wanting to get away from me and build their own family. The perfect family my mother had always wanted.

I glanced over to my mother who was watching me with concern as if I was a fragile glass that would break some time soon. "You want this?"

My mother placed her hand over her stomach. "Oh, Luce, you can come visit us when you're on break!"

I shrugged nonchalantly. "Okay."

Without another word, I turned on my heel and left the house, my feelings still intact and my mind, focused on the task at hand. My mid-terms were important and I was going to strive for a good mark, a mark that could get me somewhere far away from this piece of shit of a town and so-called family.

With clenched fists, I was about to throw my textbook on the ground when a familiar red Mercedes pulled over, the windows rolling down fast. Sora popped his head over the passenger's seat and opened its door for me, inviting me in.

For once, I was eternally grateful for his random appearance.

On our way to school, I couldn't help but raged to Sora of how stupid of a step-father I had and how desperate my mother was. I had explained the situation to Sora and he had listened to me silently with no judgements in his eyes as he kept his eyes ahead and the occasion of glancing over at me whenever my voice cracked.

Sora helped me out of the car then grabbed his own backpack before returning beside me as he fell in step with me. He waited till I had finished ranting before giving me a smirk. "What do you want to do?"

I bit my lip, suddenly becoming frustrated at everything and how my life had become. I was grateful that I had a roof over my head and a plate to eat with the best education but I hated the journey that led me here. "I want to do something crazy. Something so fucking crazy that will let me feel free and in control of my own life."

Sora halted in his steps, amusement dancing in his eyes as he took out his phone before tapping on it with his thumbs. "You've come to the right person. Meet here after the test?"

Without any hesitance, I nodded, adrenaline pumping through my veins.

Sora was about to walk away to the building where one of his tests was located but before he did so, he approached me and tapped the bottom of my chin like he had done before and cheekily grinned. "Good luck on the test, Luce."

A little spark of hope ignited inside of me as I watched Sora walk away.
