~August~
I parked the car and turned to look at my girls in the backseat.
"Daddy, are we gonna see PawPaw?" Serena asked, recognizing Pop's house.
"Yeah. And you're gonna meet your grandma too."
She smiled.
I got out and unbuckled both girls from their seats before getting them out of the car.
I knocked on the front door, before just walking in.
"Mama? Where y'all at?" I called.
Soon, I heard heavy footsteps and three not-so-little girls appeared.
"Serena!" They screamed and rushed to hug her.
I scrunched my face up.
"So y'all just gone ignore ya uncle like that? The man that's helping raise y'all? Wow, how fake." I pretended to be hurt.
They immediately laughed and grabbed me in a hug.
The younger two grabbed Serena and pulled her further into the house.
"Hollon," Chay, the oldest, held up a finger. "Who baby is dat?"
"Mine."
"Hm." Was her response. "She's cute. She must take after her mama."
"Girl if you don't getcho-" I lunged for her and she skipped away laughing.
I followed the sound of laughter into the kitchen to find my mother cooking while the girls were sitting at the table.
I spoke to everyone but couldn't help but start grinning when a red-headed woman entered the room.
"Aug!"
"Cha! Wassup baby!" I immediately moved to wrap her in the tightest one arm hug I could.
Chandra was my late brother's first love, and was also the mother of my three nieces.
Even though my brother was no longer with us, she was and still is a great part of our family.
