Even though, Clint and Laura were next door I couldn't help but yell out, "God damnit!" I know I'm not supposed to cuss in front of Nate but I just stepped on a stupid ornament and I almost pierced my foot with the glass of the star sculpture. I ease off of the ornament and exhale happily seeing there was only a crack in the star and is not completely shattered.

"Easy there, Lila," Cooper chuckles pulling the ornament from off the ground, and setting it on the spirit smelling tree. "These things aren't indestructible like you, sis."

From beside me Nate giggles and holds an ornament up for me to set on the tree myself. "God damn it, Lila," he repeats as I take the ornament from him and slyly shift my eyes to look into kitchen where Laura and Clint are baking cookies. The two are preoccupied with some joke Clint has said, probably about the fact that Laura has flour smudged onto her cheek.

While I set the ornament on the tree I whisper to Nate, "don't tell Mom and Dad I said that, okay?"

"Why not?" He asks innocently, the incline of his head making me purse my lips to keep from smiling so big.

Penelope swoops in to my rescue, from beside me, on the other side of the tree, she overhears our conversation. She scoops Nate up in her arms and whispers, "because it's a super duper secret between you and Lila, alright?" Nate ferociously nods his head before Penelope sets him down and sends a wink my way.

It's Saturday morning and even though I generally train with Uncle Tony, due to his absence, I decided to drive to the Safe House and help decorate the tree for Christmas. Granted, Christmas is by far the strangest holiday I've heard of so far, some of the traditions are coming back to me. Like seeing an ornament I made when I was five made me feel nostalgic, sparking a memory in my head that was created before HYDRA. The unmistakable smell of the Christmas tree reminded me of joy, from what few Christmases I spent with my family I remember the glee I felt when opening gifts around the tree on the snowy holiday morning.

"So Lila, Eddie's wedding is on Friday?" Laura asks, entering the living room, setting a plate of warm cookies on the table. The treats she sets out are called Snickerdoodle Cookies. I remember the name because it fit so well with the randomness of the holiday.

I nod before taking one of the white cookies in my hand, "yep. In California. Uncle Tony and Pepper said they could take me. Eddie gave me extra tickets for whoever wants to go."

"I want to go to a wedding!" Nate squeals excitedly from the floor where he's now chewing on a fresh cookie Laura has pulled out of the oven. He's still in his pajamas, and he's got Christmas tree socks on with red and white stripes. There's a hole in left sock, where his smallest toe pokes out of.
