Rio felt odd by looking at her classmates. In fact, not just 3-E but the whole school.
News spread like a wildfire that principal Asano was out for a long vacation…
If they only knew. She sighed.
“Don’t you think it’s strange?” Yuzuki whispered directly on Rio’s ear, making her friend shudder by the sudden presence.
“For goodness’ sake Fuwa!” Rio hissed, “What, what’s strange?”
“Mmm…” Yuzuki just nodded, ignoring her friend’s question.
Rio rolled her eyes and returned to her own personal space saved for lazing around.
“You’re not paying attention, Rio.” Yuzuki blurted out after a brief silence, “You’re likely to stick your nose in such matters.”
“I’m just-- not in the mood Fuwa.” Rio answered as she tried to avoid looking at her inquisitive friend.
“Wrong.” Yuzuki abruptly leaned on Rio’s desk with the same eyes that she makes whenever she’s trying to read someone’s expression, “This is so, out of character Rio.” She intensified her gaze as if piercing through Rio’s skull with her psychic powers.
Rio was startled but she tried her best to remain composed, clearing throat and returning the inquisitive aura that her friend emits.
It’s like a staring contest with both parties deciding who’s more suspicious.
It’s weird, but it’s getting clearer now… I’ll consider this one, Fuwa. Rio thought.
“Tell me Nakamura, will you join me in my conquest?” Yuzuki suddenly pulled out and offered her hand.
“Well of course.” Rio went with it, received the offer and shook her hand, smirking.
“Then better start your intel gathering. I know you have a lot of connections with the other class. Oh yes, you’re helping me to find out why the principal was kicked out.” Yuzuki nodded approvingly.
“Kicked-out? So you already knew?” Rio went on with the facade, “I’ll do what I can.”
“That’s Rio for you. And of course I already had a hunch. But this is just our little secret.” Yuzuki leaned in and whispered the last part, “Don’t tell the class yet. I’m sure they’ll be ‘GWAH!’ when we proved that the principal isn’t on a vacation.”
“You sounded like a creep, but I’m on with it otherwise.” Rio faked a grin, “This would become a nice prank if we do well.”
“Your prank is yours. The case is mine.” Yuzuki winked and went off like nothing happened.
“What were you talking about with Fuwa?” Hinano suddenly popped beside Rio.
“Why are you people keep popping out of nowhere?!” She squealed in complain.
“Oh, am I?” Hinano giggled, “By the way, did you know that beetles eat mushrooms…” She started to discuss a topic from a different world.
Rio just lazily leaned on her elbows while listening to Hinano’s random trivia.
…
“Rio, hurry up.” Karma checked their classroom for the second time.
“My keys are missing!”
“Maybe you left them inside your locker after P.E?” Karma shrugged and join her inside.
