Song: Scared of the Dark by Lil Wayne, Ty Dolla $ign & XXXTENTACION
Blair's POV
My parents ran like their lives depended on it. Mother lurched me out of Jordyn's hold and into her arms, Dad joining the embrace. I hesitantly hugged them back. I didn't understand. I was so confused. Did this mean that they truly cared and looked for me this whole time? A smile lit up my face as I realised that this was true. They did care. They did love me. Mama pressed kisses to my cheeks, and I laughed, relishing in the feeling I thought I had lost.
This was what I had always wanted. What I always needed. I didn't need Aunty Jordyn. I had Mum and Dad instead. Mum stood up, leaving Dad to ruffle my hair and kiss my cheeks. I giggled as he pressed his forehead against mine. His fluffy curls tickled my own, and I watched through the gaps in his hair as Uncle Zayn, Uncle Niall, Uncle Louis and Uncle Liam stepped out of our car and briskly walked down to us. They held guns firmly in their hands but that didn't stop them from kindly peering at me like the angels they were. Uncle Zayn winked at me while the rest smiled, visibly letting out a breath of relief. They were all worried about me and that filled me with an unfathomable amount of love, but I was quickly distracted by my mother's voice.
"Jordyn" She spoke calmly, her stance still. I wondered out of my father's arms and stood next to my mother. Her face was blank. I couldn't tell what she was thinking. A knife glinted in the corner of my eye, drawing my attention. Mama held the knife expertly in her grasp and twirled it around. The intensity in the air choked me. She stared into Jordyn's eyes and I could almost see the terrorizing fear in her eyes. Jordyn quivered slightly but remained unfazed. She was wondering the same thing I did. Did she know?
Suddenly, the resolve broke and my Mum's face contorted into one of sympathy. Surprise flashed in both of our eyes, hitting me like a brick. I stepped back, clutching my father. He kissed my cheek and looked off unbothered. He didn't know either.
I looked at him, noticing how distant he seemed. His eyes glazed over the trees and the beautiful view. His distraction allowed me to silently take a hold of the gun in his waistband. With a feather light touch which Mama taught me to use, I plucked the gun from his side and brought it into my hand. The metal was cold and consumed by the slight chill in the air. I shivered subtly, trying my best to tuck the gun away.
"Did they hurt you?" Mama stepped closer to Jordyn making my head flick up. If you looked closely you would have noticed the look in my eye. My eyes told a story. A story of betrayal and fear, but I tried my hardest not to show it. I glared at Jordyn, watching her feign innocence and hurt.
"Yes, an iron bar crushed my leg." She started to jump on one leg, and I rolled my eyes internally. What a show. Mum stepped closer to her. My eyes lit up with concern. Any closer and Jordyn could hurt her. My eyes searched the futile forest floor. I needed to come up with something, anything. In a split second, I ripped out the gun and shot a distant leaf. Everyone's eyes flicked to me and I faked an apologetic look. "Sorry Ma-. "But, before I could finish my apology, Jordyn had whipped out her gun, aiming straight at my mother, she froze. My Mum examined me for damages before turning back to Jordyn.
Her eyes widened in shock as she peered at the gun. Confusion blanketed her face.
"Jordyn what are you doing?" She laughed a bit at the end, thinking this was a joke. Of course, she did. They've been friends for over a decade. None of us expected Jordyn to turn on us.
"Something I've always wanted to do. Drop the knife" She glanced at Mum's knife and motioned to it with the gun. Mum stared down at the knife in her grasp with a bewildered look. She shrugged her shoulders and threw the knife away, still not believing the harsh reality. That her best friend had turned on her.
"No!" I yelled as she dropped it. She looked back at me with a confused look. "What is it Blair?" I shook my head, watching Jordyn glare at me. "Um, nothing" I dropped my head. I couldn't say it. I was a coward and I knew it. Tears pooled at my feet. "Blair why are you crying?" Dad softly asked me. I cried into his chest, not being able to watch. My mother shuffled her feet and playfully raised her hands in surrender. "Jordyn! Stop playing with me. Put down the gun." She laughed, glancing back at me and winking. I shook my head at her and cried harder.
The gun in my hand shook. I couldn't let this happen. I had to save my Mama. I had to do this. I twisted out of my father's embrace and picked up the gun. Aiming it at Jordyn, I stepped in front of my mother. My mother furrowed her eyebrows and stared at me, bewildered.
"Blair, stop it. What are you doing?" I glared at Jordyn. I didn't waver the gun as I spoke. "Saving you Mama" I cocked the gun and Mother's eyes widened. Jordyn stared back at me with a challenging smirk. She didn't think I would do it. "Blair stop it. Give me the gun now" She reached for the gun and I dodged her advance. Dad stepped in. "Blair, what's going on?" I felt his stare burn holes into the back of my head, but I didn't turn. I didn't avert my eyes from the enemy. Jordyn stared back at me. She mouthed a phrase to me. "You won't do it" I glowered at her, tightening my hold on the gun.
"Blair stop aiming the gun at Aunty Jordyn" With that, I cackled humourlessly.
"Aunty" I laughed. "She is no aunty, Mama" Mother stepped into my peripheral vision, now halfway between Jordyn and I. The confused expression never left her face and I decided to finally ease her uncertainties.
"You think you know someone, isn't that right Aunty Jordyn" I was fuming, the hatred seeping into my words. Spite filled my tone as I growled. "I always thought the world was a good place for good people. Until I realised the evil was among us." I stared straight into her honey orbs, watching them flicker with fear, knowing she was about to be exposed. I could see her hand visibly shaking but she tried to not waver and continued to aim in the direction of my mother. "Blair, what on earth are you talking about" Frustration laced her tone and she stamped her foot.
"The Callous Cartel didn't kidnap me Mama...Jordyn did."
