Song: Feel It Twice by Camila Cabello
Aria's POV
Blair's eyes lulled softly into the back of her head as she drifted into a deep sleep. Her head was pressed in the kink of Harry's neck as he carried her in his arms. Debris and dirt covered every inch of our skin. I felt a tinge of sadness as I peered at Theo and Blair. Tiny specks of blood littered their hair and face and it enraged me.
The rest of the boys, Gemma, Theo, Anne and Luke followed closely behind us. None of us said a word. We were all tired, exhausted, dirty and most importantly, grief-stricken. Tears stung the corners of my blood-shot eyes, but I pushed the morbid thoughts to the back of my brain. I could not think of that right now. I needed to get my family to safety first.
On the coast of Spain, we trekked along the winding and bending roads. The waves loudly crashed against the rocks in a peaceful way. I smiled lightly at the endless sea of blue. The water was so crystal clear and despite all things considered, I felt at peace. I felt like we had been given a tiny small precious slice of heaven.
The silence was comfortable but eerie. We had all experienced the same loss. Again. We didn't know how to feel about it. Did we continue our lives with this mindless pit of pain in our hearts and hope it turns to numbness? Or do we face the blinding pain head on and ponder the loss of our best friends? Our family. They both were the light in our seemingly dark world. And this was yet another reminder that angels did not belong on earth. They belonged in the beauties beyond the clouds. They belonged to be among the other angels in a land of peace.
My eyes slowly drifted up to the grey sky. Flashes of lightning lit up the sky in a fascinating way. I had never liked thunder and storms, but with this newfound void in my chest, I began accustomed to the darkness. I longed to hold Jordyn in my arms. I longed to hear her laugh and her silky voice. I wanted her. I needed her. To tell me that everything would be okay. And I would eventually escape this pit of hell. I needed her to give me strength and life to get my family out of this situation. I felt like our survival was riding on my back. I needed desperately to save them. I felt like I was failing my daughter. I did not want her to wake up and notice we were still in the middle of nowhere. It would crush any sliver of hope she had left. She would ask me where we were going. Or if we even knew where we were going.
Little did she know, I had a slight idea. Harry and I had visited Costa Blanca when Blair was a baby. Mila owned a tiny foster home here. In this small town, she submitted herself to a life of raising abandoned children. I truly admired her for it. I remember the day she found out she was unfertile. That she could never bear a child. She was so distraught and crushed, I thought she would never bounce back from such news. But she did. Despite, always longing for a family of her own, she took us all by surprise and made a new one. Blood and biology didn't matter to her anymore because the children who were left on her doorstep were hers to raise and take care of. She loved children more than she loved the thought of bearing one. A stranger's child was enough for her and I truly admired that.
The dull rays of sun started to slowly disappear as night fell. We were almost there. The lights of the distant town flashed a few moments ago as we entered the border. Children roamed the streets freely and giggly. They were truly happy here. As we ventured closer to the town square, children were everywhere. There were a massive abundance of them and I knew we had arrived.
"Vamonos. Dentro de todos. ¡Los quiero a todos en la ducha antes de que se prepare la cena!" (Let's go. Inside everyone. I want you all in the shower before dinner is ready!)
I smiled as her familiar Spanish accent floated through my ears.
I briskly peered up at the massive foster home.
