I met you in the dark, you lit me up
You made me feel as though I was enough
I'm drunk. It happens.
I stumble along, feeling the walls of the house, trying not to fall over, when I run into someone.
I look up and my breath catches in my throat.
"Are you okay?" The man asks. I nod.
"I'm Tony."
"Steve."
We danced the night away, we drank too much
I held your hair back when
You were throwing up
Steve asks me to dance, and we did, all night long.
He walks me home.
Then you smiled over your shoulder
For a minute, I was stone-cold sober
He looked over his shoulder and smiled and me, and my heart stuttered in my chest.
I pulled you closer to my chest
And you asked me to stay over
Steve twirled me on the sidewalk, underneath the glow of the street lights, the two of us laughing.
He pulls me closer and I look up at him.
"Stay over." I whisper.
I said, I already told ya
I think that you should get some rest
"Tony, I already told you. You need to sleep."
"Stay with me." I repeat, pulling him closer to me.
I knew I loved you then
But you'd never know
It's the middle of the night. I couldn't sleep, and I looked over at Steve, sleeping peacefully.
I smile and move closer to him, feeling better with him than I have with anybody else.
'Cause I played it cool when I was scared of letting go
I know I needed you
"Steve can I- could we- can I see you again tomorrow?" I ask nervously, not wanting to come on too strong.
Steve turns back around, and smiles.
"I would love that."
But I never showed
But I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old
I tentatively lean my head down on Steve's shoulder, my breathing relaxing as we watch the movie.
Steve smiles and grabs my hand under the blanket.
I smile up at him, and he presses a kiss to my nose.

It's late at night.
"Hey, Steve." I whisper, poking my boyfriend of ten months.
"Tons, it's late. What do you need?" Steve asks, turning to face me.
"Let's get married." I murmur, pressing my forehead against Steve's.
"Did you just propose without a ring, in the middle of the night." Steve asks. I nod, smiling widely.
"Will you marry me?" I ask again.
Steve smiles, and nods, tears pooling in his eyes.
"Yes. Yes, I'll marry you."
I'll wake you up with some breakfast in bed
I'll bring you coffee with a kiss on your head
"Steve, baby, wake up." I say softly, carefully setting the coffee on bedside table.
I lightly brush my lips over his forehead.
"C'mon honey, you have to wake up." Steve mumbles something and opens his eyes.
I smile and pick up his coffee, drinking it.
And I'll take the kids to school
Wave them goodbye
And I'll thank my lucky stars for that night
"Peter, Harley, Dad or I will be here after school, got it." Peter and Harley nod, before taking off into school.
When you looked over your shoulder
For a minute, I forget that I'm older
I wanna dance with you right now
"Steve, come on, you don't have work, I don't have work. Let's do something fun." I plead, grabbing my husband's hand.
"Like what."
"Let's dance." I spin Steve, the way he spun me, all those years ago, under the streetlights.
Steve lets out a laugh.
Oh, and you look as beautiful as ever
And I swear that everyday you'll get better
You make me feel this way somehow
We sway to imaginary music, leaning into each other.
"Thank you." I whisper.
I'm so in love with you
And I hope you know
Darling, your love is more than worth its weight in gold
"For what?"
"Remember that party? That was going to be my last party. I was ready to kill myself that night. I didn't have many friends, and the ones I did have, I was convinced they hated me. But you made me feel good about myself, you gave me life again. And I love you so much more for it."
"I love you too Tony. So much."
