Chapter 40

Melissa's P.O.V:

Yeah, I was regretting asking Ethan to put on the horror movie. It wasn't that I was afraid of it or anything. It was quite the opposite of it actually. I was quite amused at the stupidity of the girl that kept going towards danger and slowly getting all her friends killed. Ethan on the other hand was not doing that well. He was currently buried in my hair with one eye popping out every once in a while to watch what was going to happen only to go back in when a jump scare came up. I was about to tell him to change the movie if he wanted but at that moment I heard a terrified scream echo in the castle and a series of shouts following it. I jumped off the couch and ran for the door with Ethan close behind me. I then remembered I had frisking powers and with my vampire side out, fangs and all. In a flash I was standing in front of Adalina who was hugging her knees close to her body and rocking back and forth. Just a few miles away was an unconscious Adrian.

Then my eyes went to the figure responsible for all of it. it was a man looking to be about in his mid twenties but seeing his wizard robe and intelligent eyes I could tell he was not that age he seemed to look like. I hissed at him not liking my family and friends in danger.

"who are you? And how dare you hurt my family."

Instead of replying he just took his hand and flicked it towards me and I felt a blast of sparks go through me. He actually tried stunning me like he did to Adrian but all it did to me was make me angrier. I straightened up and growled at him. this time my fangs vanished and were replaced by my normal self but with my aqua blue eyes showing my witchy side.

"one more time warlock. Why are you on my land, threatening my family?"

Once again he didn't say anything but look at me in a peculiar way. I was literally losing my patience. I blasted my own series of spells and he was on the ground withering in pain and asking me to stop. I called over all my guards and asked them to drag him to the dungeons and that I'll be there in a minute. I turned to see Adalina still in the same position as before but now she was crying and muttering

'it's my fault. It's all my fault. Please stop. Make it stop. Please stop."

At this point she wasn't even crying, just muttering how it was her fault. I saw Ethan in the corner trying to wake Adrian up so I went to Adalina and tried to make her stop the muttering.

"Adalina! It's okay he is gone! Hey! Shh it's okay!"

"no no no no! my fault. My fault."

Okay this wasn't going to work. So I did what I used to do to Max when he had nightmare about flying donkeys and began acting like this. I slapped her hard on the face and she immediately snapped out of it but now the waterworks started. Hey! It was at least better than the muttering. On the plus side me backhanding Adalina woke Adrian up as well. So....... Two birds one stone?

I hugged Adalina close to me and tried to make her feel better.

"Adalina, please. I told Adrian before and I am telling you now. I will never let my family get hurt. Just trust me. I will make sure the witch is dead before she gets any closer to you or any other jewels. Now I want you to go back to your room with Adrian. Have some rest I will see you tomorrow."

With that she nodded and left with Adrian for presumably her room and as soon as she turned away I collapsed on the floor and Ethan rushed to me.

"what happened? Are you okay?"

"I may be a queen Ethan but I am also susceptible to these injuries."

"what injury? Where are you hurt? What happened? Tell me!"

"chill dude, it just a little curse..........that can possibly end up eating me on the inside out till I turn into a living zombie with no brain power to function and a desire to nibble on others bodies and blood.....no biggie!"

For a second Ethan stood there dumb founded till he exploded..........not literally

"what!?"

"uh! Yeah that warlock was under the witches spell and he like transmitted the curse onto me. It is a centuries old curse that no one knows the cure of. Well, except some of the elder fairies and gypsies that live in your realm."

For a second everything was quiet and peaceful. Well, that looks the end of that for quite a while a long, long while. Who knew this peace wasn't going to last.
