• Chapter 12

Cho-a stormed into the boy's office, an innocently surprised look on her face.

"You didn't tell him?" she questioned quickly, carefully closing the door behind her. Jisung closed his eyes, clenched his jaw, ignored his missing patience.

"Normally people knock and wait until they are allowed inside," he said calmly.

Cho-a nodded, tilted her head to the side a little.
"Would you have allowed me to come inside?"

"Of course not," Jisung deadpanned, finally looking up. "What do you want?"

The girl took a step further inside, hands behind her back as she walked. The room was a little too dark, stuffy, gloomy for her taste but it fit the boy well.

Books, folders, files.

It seemed like he had a lot to work on, she didn't realize that before.

Eyes on the shelves to her side, she answered.
"You didn't tell Renjun about that girl the other day." Her voice sounded a little disinterested, it drifted off at the end. "Everyone always tells him everything, I figured you'd do too."

Jisung followed the girl's gaze, trying to figure out what had captured her eye before that bored him.
"It's solved already," he replied, eyes back on the girl. "Why bother him with it."

As if she didn't expect it, Cho-a inhaled deeply, nodded to herself and looked at Jisung. He raised a brow and watcher her expectantly.

"So you didn't tell him for his own sake?"

"What else? I don't care enough about you to do it for you," he half-stated and half-insulted.

Cho-a nodded.
"Fair enough." She took a step closer yet again and was just an arm-length away from the boy at this point.

She looked him up and down, looked at the documents before him.

There was a moment of silence before Jisung exhaled flatly and leaned as far back in his chair as he could. By the way she looked at him, he could tell that she was about to ask something else.

"You don't think it's weird?"

"You? Yes definitely-"

"You aren't in the place to call anyone weird, grim reaper," Cho-a snapped back, her words and posture and everything in between endlessly laid-back and calm. She didn't take offence; neither did he.

So he just sat still and kept watching her, knowing she would continue talking eventually.

"All Renjun did was snap once and you change your whole behaviour towards me," she stated confidently. The teasing undertone shimmered through her words, dripping off them.

Jisung poked his tongue against the inside of his cheek before inhaling deeply.
"Your point?"

"He has no reason not to trust you. In fact, I'm sure he trusts you. There must be another reason why he isn't telling you about me then," she said. "Now I'm curious. What did this big scary grim reaper do that caused Renjun to be so careful."

Her gaze was, above all else, curious. There was no judgement nor any malicious intent hidden behind the rich brown of her eyes.

There was just a question.

A question Jisung was surprised about. He thought she knew it all; whatever it was. He thought she had all the answers.

Seemed like he was wrong.

Yet amid it all, the boy pushed the topic of Renjun to the side and looked at the girl with a strict look.
"Don't tell me you risked getting pushed down three floors because you wanted to test me."

Because, surely, that would have been a dumb reason to provoke the girl. It would've been a dumb reason to act tough.

Cho-a stayed silent. She held Jisung's gaze, her rich brown staring into his. Her features as calm and void of emotion as his.

"Cho-a," Jisung warned. "Did you?"

She frowned.
"You said not to tell you," she deadpanned.

"You really are an idiot," he mumbled in return. "Why does Renjun even keep you around."

Cho-a inhaled sharply and put a hand above her heart.
"Ouch."
