1st chapter of the Oya Squad Zombie Apocalypse Angst series. It will be probably 2 or 3 chapters, just depends. The angst is more in the next chapter but in this one is the build-up. I do plan on doing the apocalypse au with several groups in Haikyuu but they will have separate storylines, for now, is just the Oya Squad.

The small group was ever vigilant. Silent, listening out for the slight tap of the rain against the tin roof, the groans and horrific screams in the distance. The tallest raven peeked out the window once more and observed the terrain. Destroyed buildings, blown up cars, smashed windows, dead bodies; torn apart, shredded, mauled, bitten. There appeared to be no active life; if you could even call them that. To be seen.

"Looks to be clear. Tsukki, you and me on first watch." Kuroo instructed. The said blonde rolled his eyes, and glared up at Kuroo from the small crate he was sitting on.
"Don't call me that," he growled.
Kuroo put his hands up in mock surrender and walked over to Bokuto and Akaashi.
"How bad is it?" He asked, crouching down next to the shorter raven's side.
"Akaashi's dying! I don't know what to do!" Bokuto exclaimed frantically.
"I'm fine Bokuto-san, Kuroo-san. The wound has been somewhat cleaned and now bandaged. It's fine. It's not like it's a bite, just a small stab wound." Akaashi tiredly explained, gesturing to the flimsy bandage around his abdomen.

"We won't be able to stay here more than just tonight. Who knows if another group will attack us again. It's not just the Z's we gotta look out for. But, Bokuto, Akaashi, get some rest. Especially you Akaashi. We can't afford to have you slow us down." Kuroo said.
Akaashi nodded and laid his head back into Bokuto's lap who is sitting down and leaning against the wall.

"Tsukki, get of your ass and up on the roof." Tsukishima snarled at the use of the nickname but grudgingly got up and followed the older teen up the rickety ladder up to the roof that concerned the blonde whether it would hold their weight or not.

After shuffling around, attempting to sit comfortably but failing, silence befell the two. Their eyes set on the view. This whole apocalypse thing had been going on since the beginning of the year, it was now mid September and showed absolutely no sign of stopping. From the rare radio sessions the group comes across, all of Japan is destroyed. No one knows anything about any other countries, all refusing to be in contact with the disastrous wasteland. From what is assumed, the 'virus' that caused all this is all off shore in Japan and everyone else intends to keep it stranded there, along with the people. Speaking of the people, most have gone absolutely phsyochotic. This place is no longer for the weak minded. It's quite literally kill or get killed. If not by the zombies, than by savage groups of desperate people, in need of either your supplies, food or weapons. Or maybe, just for the fun of it.

Tsukishima reluctantly joined the former trio in the last month when they found him repetivly hitting a clearly dead zombie over the head with a hammer, it's brain splattered all over the concrete. The body of a green haired freckled teen next to him, bite marks all over his pale lifeless skin. He only joined them since he knew he was physically weak, he wouldn't have survived on his own. Not without him. Tsukishima refused any of the groups attempts of getting to know him. He only tolerated the light chats from Akaashi but despised Kuroo and Bokuto's constant positive behaviour. They enjoyed killing the Z's, very much so. Tsukishima didn't. The only one he did enjoy killing was the one when the group found him. He thought they were gross. Akaashi seemed to be the only one who thought about the fact that they used to be people. Humans. Not rabid flesh eating savages. He refused to kill any children Z's which all the other members were okay with.

"Were you in a group before you joined us?" Kuroo asked.
"A pair." He replied bluntly.
"Did something happen to them?"
"I don't want to talk about it."
"Well Tsukki, you should really just let your emotions out into the open. You aren't expected to keep it all bottled up. You do realise the situation we're in right? This is the shit we only expect to see in movies."
"Stop fucking calling me that!" Tsukishima snapped.
"What's wrong with it? it's just a stupid nickname!"
"Yeah, well the person who used to call me that 'stupid nickname' is now dead!"
Kuroo's eyes widened as he realised his mistake. He honestly was just having some fun with the blonde, he never expected that.
"What was their name?" The raven asked cautiously.
Tsukishima looked at him confused before rolling his eyes and looking away.
"Yamaguchi Tadashi."
"Well, Yamaguchi, you are now in my nightly prayers along with Kenma."
"Kenma?"
"Kozume Kenma. My childhood best friend. It was May 13th, it was just Kenma and I, we still hadn't caught up with Bokuto and Akaashi. We knew them already since we attended the same school and were friends. He was very physically weak so I had to protect him. There was this house that I spied on and saw that it had a lot of good supplies. I left Kenma at our hide out but when I came back...they had gotten to him. He...I couldn't kill him. I ran away with only a crow bar and his backpack filled with his things. I was too weak to kill my best friend and now because of that, he's either killing other people, or someone else has ruthlessly killed him." Tsukishima looked at Kuroo with a look of somewhat empathy, it was hard to tell. Tears threatened to spill from Kuroo's eyes. Tsukishima sighed and decided to speak up too.

"Tadashi was also my childhood best friend, ironically. We had been together since this whole thing started. He was surprisingly the much better one at killing those things while I made sure we stayed safe. We were a pretty strong duo. We had come across several groups and had been either able to defeat them or scare them off. It was August 5th. We were swarmed by a huge group of them, there were just too many to fight off. We were both doing out best. There was only three Z's left, and I let Tadashi take two of them on at the same time while I dealt with another. By the time I turned around, one was dead, the other was on top of him, biting him. I pulled the zombie off and killed him. But it was too late for Tadashi. He told me to kill him. He didn't want to be a monster. I fucking killed my best friend. I snapped his neck and out of anger just kept hitting that zombie bastard over and over again."

Kuroo looked at Tsukishima with a solemn expression, he noticed the blonde's jaw was clenched and his eyes were squeezed shut.
"Is that the first time you have said it out loud?"
"....yeah."
"Do you feel better know that you've let it out?"
"...yeah."
"Well, I think that's enough deep talk for tonight."
