HARDIN.

I know I shouldn't say this but Tessa was really out of line. She shouldn't have exploded on Emery like that. Of course, I understand why she did, but she has spent most of our life today scolding me for doing such a thing. What makes it right for her to do it to her own daughter?

I hope Emery didn't go too far, or at least Addy is with her. This is a foreign town for her. I'd hate for her to get lost or kidnapped by a fucking creep.

I swing the front door open and go outside. I stay very quiet once I realize Addy and Emery are only in the driveway. Emery seemed to have kicked down a trash can as she yells at Addy. "I don't need anyone's fucking help! People need to stop fucking trying to help me. I'm sick and tired of it!" I flinch at her words, and look down at the ground. She doesn't want me to hear this probably. Well, maybe she does since I'm the one who helps her the most.

Emery then storms off and Addy comes over towards me. I look at her oddly. "She wants to be alone." Addy says gently and I sigh.

Sure, she can be alone, but I'm following her. I don't reply to Addy and I continue down the steps and towards the sidewalk, keeping my distance from Emery so she won't know I'm following. I don't plan on eavesdropping or anything fucking insane fathers would do, but I'm not letting her walk out here alone. I'm already ready to bash any strangers' heads in who might want to fucking touch her.

It's been at least an hour. I see the sun beginning to set so it's my time to make myself known. "Emery!" I call and Emery twists around with a shocked expression. "I'm sorry, but I couldn't let you come out here alone."

She stares at me for a minute, and I can see the gears turning inside of her head. "You were- you were following me?"

I walk closer, nodding my head. "Be mad if you want, but it's better than you possibly being kidnapped in a town you hardly know."

She looks down and shakes her head. She turns off her music and stuffs her phone into her pocket. "Can we just go home?"

I nod, pulling out my phone to see multiple texts of Tessa asking if Emery is okay. "Let me call your mum to pick us up." Emery huffs, and I glance up at her. "She's your mother, Emery."

"Yeah, no shit." She rolls her eyes.

"Stop being an asshole. It doesn't fix anything." I state simply from experience, putting the phone to my ear as the phone rings.

"Hardin, is she okay?" Tessa immediately speaks.

"She's fine. Could you pick us up, we're at..." I take a look around my surroundings, and at a house number we're stopped by. "1278 Maple Drive?" I question and Tessa mumbles 'I don't know.' "Fuck it, I'll send you my location. Just get here quickly. We're ready to leave."
