chapter twenty-three : the golden egg

Juniper was sitting alone onto the Quidditch Pitch. It was the day of the Yule Ball and everyone was either freaking out or not caring at all. Deciding a moment of peace would do her well, the black haired had taken her golden egg — she had yet to find out how to listen to that awful sound — and made her way towards the Quidditch Pitch.

"Now, what do you hide?" she quietly asked the golden egg that laid on the grass in front of her.

"Have you figured it out, yet?" a voice behind her asked.

June turned around and saw Draco leaning against one of the pillars that contained a hoop.

"Do I look like I figured it out?" June said, turning back to the egg to examine it further.

Draco sat down next to her. "Have you opened it?"

June nodded.

"What does it say?"

"It's an awful sound."

Draco frowned. "Maybe it's not supposed to open at all. Maybe it's something that's engraved in it?"

June picked it up and examined it carefully. "I don't think so," she said. "There's nothing really on it." She then turned to look at her cousin. "Who are you planning on bringing to the Yule Ball?"

"Pansy," Draco replied flatly.

"Parkinson?" June asked, raising an eyebrow. "I didn't know you liked her."

"I don't."

Juniper eyed him carefully. Draco didn't meet her gaze as he turned his head to look at the opposite hoops.

"Is there someone you like?" she asked carefully.

Draco shook his head. "No." He then looked at her. "So you and Weasley, eh?"

"His name is Charlie," June said, blushing slightly while smiling broadly, "but yes."

"Does he make you happy?" Draco quietly asked.

Juniper looked at him and nodded. "He does."

"Then that's all that matters," Draco said, smiling back.

Fred stood in front of Honeydukes as he waited for his brother to arrive. He glanced at his watch.

He was running late.

Charlie dashed from around the corner, a bag slung over his shoulders.

"You're late," Fred pointed out, as they went into Honeydukes.

"I know, I know," Charlie breathed. "The Chinese Fireball was being a bit — er — difficult. Now, where is this secret passageway of yours?"
