A/N: probablygay1, this was actually really fun to do once I got into it, even though I don't typically like the whole Roman getting incredibly flustered angle a good amount of people take on prinxiety. Also, it feels like forever since I've done prinxiety so thanks

T.W: I call Virgil a bastard (I know y'all are protective of him so don't come at me-)

Third Person

It wasn't a secret that Roman Garcia was gay. In fact, the entire student body had known since eighth grade, and by the time they reached high school the vast majority of students didn't have a problem with it. He respected people's boundaries, even if he did jokingly flirt with his straight friends on occasion, so they didn't see a reason to give him crap for liking men.

Today, he set his sights on a kid that managed to fly under his radar; Virgil Jacobs. The boy had recently been thrust slightly into the spotlight when someone revealed they heard him come out as gay. If that happened to be true, Roman wanted to jump on the opportunity. There were only so many lgbtq+ students, and a good portion of them were in relationships. Avani Carter (they/them pronouns) was dating Kelsie Blake (she/her). His friends Patton and Logan were clearly interested in each other, with Logan being gay and asexual, and Patton being pan and demiromantic. Discounting any still-in-the-closet kids, that about summed up the lgbtq+ community in his school.

Simply flirting with the boy wouldn't cause any problems, and if he happened to get a real relationship out of it, great! Heck, he'd take even a basic friendship with the guy because, as Roman says, 'us hopeless gays gotta stick together' or something like that. There's no such thing as too many gay best friends.

Virgil was notorious for leaving school as soon as possible, and if it weren't for the resumé-padding extracurriculars he had practically forced himself into, Roman wouldn't stand a chance at talking to him. They didn't have any classes together, and hardly had any of the same classes to begin with. Roman went heavy on the electives, dropping science and math as soon as he had enough credits. Virgil opted to do more of the main courses, taking only two AP classes as recommended by his anxiety. So, he'd have to catch the boy during drama club.

Of course, this was the day Ms. Daniels decided to keep them busy for the entire time with various tasks because an unknown kid completely screwed up the main tech box that controls the lights. The second she dismissed them, he took off for the side doors, the place Virgil usually used as his exit.

He sees the boy approaching, seemingly distracted with his phone, "Heya stormcloud, got a minute to chat?" He asks, purposefully stepping away from the wall to block his path.

Virgil looks up, "Not really, but I guess I can make time for you~" He smirks, while Roman's face turns beet red. He certainly was not expecting that reaction. The emo snorts, "Man, you dish out one-liners like cheap diners hand out cheeseburgers but you cannot take even a single fry in return," He walks past the barely functioning student, laughing harder than anyone would have thought possible for the socially awkward boy.

This trend continued on, albeit much more subtly. Virgil would wink at him whenever they saw each other in the hallway, and no one else seemed to notice but Roman. Seriously, how can no one see that there are, like, fifty kids in the halls at all times between classes this should not be possible. But, as it turns out, Virgil Jacobs is a sly bastard underneath that grumpy exterior and pale foundation.

One day, Roman finally worked up the courage to confront the kid. He managed to find him while he was at his locker, and once Virgil had his hands safely away from the metal door, Roman slammed it shut, "Hey, watch what y- oh, it's you."

"Yes, it's me. What the hell is with the winks?" Roman asks, "And where the heckity heck did someone as angsty and quiet as yourself learn to flirt?"

"What, you jealous?" He smirks, taking what could be considered too much pride in the fact that he can make one of the most popular kids in school blush. Most people that Roman genuinely flirted with were too easy and practically threw themselves at him, so the knowledge that he was unravelled by someone actually flirting back was hilarious. Plus, Virgil had to admit that he was good-looking, "I can teach you sometime if you want?"

Roman sees his opportunity, "I think I'll take you up on that offer, are you doing anything on Friday?" For once he was actually nervous about someone's answer. Sure, he's had crushes and asked people out before but if they said no it was never a big deal. This was new to him.

Virgil looked surprised. After yesterday, he didn't think the guy would be able to function enough to respond after a simple comment, "I don't think so," That was an exaggeration, he knew he didn't have any plans. He never had plans.

"Perhaps you'd be interested in teaching me over lunch?" Friday was a half day, one of the best types of days a highschooler could experience.

The emo smirked, glad that his pale foundation would hide his slight blush. He may be fine at flirting, but that didn't mean he wasn't excited about going on a date, "Only if you're paying."

Roman smiles brightly, "I think I can manage that."
