Roman's POV

"Are you excited for your first day of preschool?!" Mama (Just imagine it with an accent) asks, crouching down to my height with a big smile.

"M-hmm!!" I agree through a mouthful of toast. She had gotten mad enough at me for talking with my mouth full, and I did not need another reminder so actually talking wasn't gonna work.

"I'll be dropping you off in five minutes so you'll be there by yourself, is that okay?" She asks, and I could have sworn she'd already told me that before.

I swallow, "I know, but I get ta meet a bunch of other kids!" The idea of going to a place filled with other people my size sounds like a dream not an actual thing I'm supposed to do.

When I finish up my breakfast, Mama grabs her keys and my backpack. She calls Remus downstairs, who comes running down with a toy weapon, going to hit me with it before mama scoops him up, "Let's get you two to school!!" She declares, carrying Remus Superman-style to the door before putting him down and grabbing his bag, "¡Vamos!"

I run outside, starting an unspoken race between me and Remus. I, of course, win and hop inside, attempting to buckle myself into the car seat. I swear this thing is as difficult to beat as a dragon witch's curse!

Right before I can get it, Mama buckles me in, "No fair!" I complain, as she laughs at my suffering and gets into her own spot in the front of the car.

I quiet down as she starts the car, forgetting my wounded pride to stare out the window to get a sneak peak at the school. After what must have been hours of driving (5 minutes) we stop in front of this short building that's basically surrounded by fields. It doesn't take a smarty-pants to figure out that this is preschool, if the other kids going in the place wasn't a big enough hint. Mama leads us in, talking to another adult who lets us into a large-ish room with a bunch of other kids inside.

Me and Remus immediately become distracted by the large block castle a couple of kids had been working on. We join them to finish the castle's construction before Remus challenges me for the throne. Apparently, these people don't like us fighting even more than our mom since we were separated for the rest of the day, banished to opposite sides of the playroom.

Soon after I notice another kid show up with his dad, who crouches down to talk to him. The kid seems scared and hugs his dad tightly, refusing to let go for a few seconds after his dad does. I decide to talk to him because I know I don't like feeling scared and I seriously doubt anyone else would except for maybe Remus.

"Hi, I'm Rwoman," I say, holding out my hand.

He looks really really scared but still takes my hand after a second, "V-Virgil."

"I don't think I've ever heard of someone with that name," I admit. Me and Remus both had pretty special names according to Mama, and it was nice to meet someone with a new name.

"I know it's weird," He messes with the ends of his hoodie sleeves, it's really cute.

"Does weird have to be a bad thing?" I ask, remembering that my dad said that before when Avery was really upset over something.

He tilts his head like a puppy, "I...guess not."

A couple kids squeal, and he seems to shrink into his hoodie at the loud noise, "It's okay," I tell him, hugging him for support.

He hugs back and the adult comes over to us, "Is everything okay over here?" She asks, watching as Virgil hides his face in my shoulder.

I guess he's scared of talking to adults, which I understand pretty well. They're big, we're small, and they have the power to put us in time out, "Yep!" I declare, making sure to be a little quieter than usual.

She smiles sweetly, "Okay, nap time will be starting soon and I'll call you guys over by name to get your mat, okay?" I give her a thumbs-up and she leaves, going to check on the other kids.

"Are you feeling better now?" I ask, peeking down at the quiet boy in my arms. He nods, "Great! Do you wanna go find something to do?"

"Su-"

"Alright kids, listen up for when I call your name for naptime!" The lady announces, going through the name's of several people I don't know before getting to me, "Roman, Remus!"

I take Virgil's hand and bring him with me, and the adult hands him a mat too. I set mine down near the reading corner, hoping that Virgil would like the quieter part of the room. He sets his down next to mine and we both lay down. I settle down on the surprisingly comfortable mat, already feeling tired.

After everyone's been quieted down for nap time, I feel a tap on my shoulder, "I can't sleep," Virgil whispers.

"What do you usually do to sleep?" I whisper back, getting a shrug in response.

I swear I see him shiver slightly and decide to try something. I pull him onto my mat, keeping my arms wrapped around him, "What are you-?"

"Whenever I can't sleep, this is what my mama does," I tell him, smiling proudly as he hugs back.

"Thanks Ro."

"No problem Vee."

A/N: I have no idea how 3-4 year olds talk, nor do I know what preschool is like. If anything it just seems more like daycare and kindergarten combined.
