A/N: Ayyy, technically a request! So this is in the same universe as Royal Pain, except it's when Ro meets Virgil's family for the first time, I messed that bit up in the message but you get the point so here ya go

Roman's POV

"I'm so excited!" Virgil looks at me like I'm crazy, "What?"

"Oh nothing," He assures me, looking back at the road, "It's just you know literally nothing about my family and you're already convinced that this'll go great."

"Well, is there something I should be worried about?" I ask, seriously doubting his family could be that bad if he actually agreed to introducing me to them.

He shrugs, "I mean, maybe??"

"Are you not out to them?" I could have sworn his family knew about his sexuality since it's pretty common knowledge back at school, "If you're not comfortable-"

"It's not that," He interrupts, "They can just be a bit...well you'll see," Sometimes I really underestimate his ability to make others anxious. But I have to stay strong for my emo nightmare!

I took one of his hands off the wheel so I could hold it, "I'm sure it'll be fine. As long as they're not homophobic, murderous, or anything like like Remus, I know they'll approve of our relationship. And if they don't you won't break up with me right?" Just gotta be sure.

"No," Ok great, "I might pretend to but it's not like I see them often so you know it can't be that hard to fake."

"Virgil," He pouts.

"Fine, I won't lie to my family because it's wrong, blah blah blah. Don't tell Patton," He says.

"Don't worry, Patton's dad mode is something I wouldn't wish upon anyone," Most people don't realize just how scary Patton could be.

He laughs, and focuses back on the road.

"Virgey you're here!!!" A slim woman declares, pulling Virgil into a tight hug on sight.

I laugh, knowing it will be really fun to tease him about this later. While he's busy getting crushed by who I'm guessing is his mother, I grab our bags. As soon as the woman spots me, she practically drops him.

"Hi, are you Virgil's mother?" I decide to take the polite approach.

"Of course I am, and don't 'hi' me!" She snaps, pulling Virgil behind her, "Virgil, who is this boy and how does he know you?!"

Virge attempts to step in front of her, "Mom...this is Roman, my boyfriend," He says slowly.

"YOUR WHAT!?!?" She exclaims, "My baby can't be dating some hooligan I've never met! Does your father know?! Oh who am I kidding, if he knew he'd have already kicked this boy to the curb, why didn't you tell me!?"

"Because I knew you'd react like this?" He offers.

"Unbelievable," She declares, approaching me. I had previously thought no one could possibly scarier than my mom, I was wrong, "How do you know my son? Are you some predator just trying to use him for his body?!"

"Mom-"

"You stay out of this young man," She spat, turning on him quickly, "I need to make sure this boy's treating you right!"

I hold up my hands defensively, "I swear that I'm not gonna 'use' Virgil. He's an amazing young man and I've fallen hard for him," I tell her.

"Okay, we get it, you're a sap," I prefer the word charming but at least she isn't shouting anymore. She circles around me, almost like she's grading a test where I'm that one essay answer that you just b-ssed your way through.

"Can we just go inside?" Virgil asks, probably hoping to get her to back off.

She frowns once more at me, "Fine, but I expect you to explain yourself before dinner," She compromises, heading back inside.

"So...that's what you meant huh?" I ask, looking at an embarrassed Virgil. He nods silently, "I think she'll warm up to me," I decide, stepping in before he can protest.

I'm greeted by a cozy living room, with what appears to be a hand-sewn blanket sitting on the back of the couch. Calling more attention to myself doesn't seem that smart so I decide to bring it up later if a conversation starts going south. Virgil's mother is muttering to herself as she paces in the kitchen, and Virgil quickly steers me away from the area before she can see me.

"Maybe you can try talking to her again later?" He suggests, directing me to a glass sliding door.

"Anything for you, my chemically imbalanced romance," I say with a wink, stepping outside as he splutters, looking hopelessly for a response.

Outside I find a man working a grill while chatting with another pair of adults. I notice one of them is wearing a shirt that says 'THEY/THEM' in large, bold letters. A couple kids, only a little younger than me and Virge by the looks of it arguing next to a table of food.

The woman notices me first, "Oh...hi?" She says, getting the attention of the other adults.

"You must be Virgil's plus one he told me he was bringing," The grilling man says, setting down his spatula and unnecessary, but amazing, chef's hat.

"Yep, I'm Roman," I introduce myself.

"Ro wai-"

"Virgil's boyfriend," I summarize before he can assume how I know Virgil exactly.

He freezes, one hand partially up to offer a handshake, "What?" He squeaks out, his voice at least an octave higher than it was a moment ago.

"Dad, I can explain," Virgil starts, walking forward. Before he can say anything, Virgil's dad falls backwards, having passed out, "I forgot he was a fainter," He mumbles.

A/N: So I'll make a part two to this because of the abrupt ending, but I wanted to get this out because it had already taken a few days longer than I would have liked to write this.
