Gone

A cloaked figure stood in the distance, surveying the wreckage before them. They stood there, wordlessly, for what seemed like hours on end. From afar, you wouldn't recognize them in fact, you wouldn't be able to identify a single thing about this person except for two tiny montrals poking out just enough for you to see.

There stood Ahsoka Tano, still numb, still indifferent to what happened a couple of hours ago. As her gaze wandered over the Republican cruiser, she inspected her handiwork— the countless rows of graves, inhabited by the clone troopers — her brothers —who hadn't been fortunate enough to escape the burning ship.

Echo. Hardcase. Jesse.

She had blessed the fallen with a final sign of her love and respect by placing their helmets on their graves.

She'd never see them again.

She hadn't even had a chance to say goodbye. She hadn't had a chance to play one last prank on Anakin alongside them. Anakin... her teacher, her best friend, her brother. Where was he? Was he safe? Was he alright? She didn't know.

A weight hanging from her belt suddenly reappeared, feeling much heavier than it did before.

Her lightsaber.

It had been a final parting gift from Anakin, neither knowing if they would ever see each other again. Pulling the elegant cylindrical weapon off of her belt, Ahsoka stared at it, reliving all the memories she had created with her brother.

"You never would've made it as Obi-Wan's Padawan... but you might make it as mine."

The newly-appointed Master sensed only nerve-wracking uneasiness from his Padawan's Force signature. What was going on down there? She'd been doing fine! Fearing that worst, Anakin dared to look down — only to see Ahsoka hanging onto the side of a walker for dear life.

Kriff.

Her lightsaber wasn't in reach. How was she going to defend herself against the incoming wave of droids? Allowing himself to loosen his grip on his ascension cable, Anakin slid down the cliff face, hurrying to aid his apprentice.

Launching himself at the nearest speeder, his lightsaber ignited with a hiss as the unfortunate droid fell down hundreds of meters in pieces. Oblivious to the Jedi's attack, the rest of the B1 units continued their leisurely ride until they all met the same fate.

"Gotta keep up!"  Anakin yelled after boarding the last droid's speeder. He smirked at Ahsoka, who stared at him in incredulity.

"Hey! No fair!"

~~~
"Ahsoka... I'm so sorry. It was my fault! I should've done more! I should've protected you!"
"You already did everything you could. When I was out there, alone, all I had was your training and the lessons you taught me. And because of you, I did survive. Not only that, I was able to lead others to survive as well."
"I don't know what to say."
"I do. Thank you, Master."
"You're welcome... my Padawan."
~~~

"Hey, Snips," Anakin muttered, rotating his head from side to side, her body still stiff from the after-affects of carbon freezing.
