"Do you fancy..?"

Demetri's POV -

I glared at their holding hands, "Yes, I am". Why was Alec holding her hand? So many things were going through my head and I didn't know how to handle them. I expected to come back to Katalina sleeping and then speaking to her the next morning. But it seems she's getting a little too comfy with Alec. Katalina seemed to notice my glare directed at their hands and she quickly removed her hand from his hold. I smirked lightly at that, but I tried to not make it too noticeable. "Alec, may I speak to you for a moment?" I said. I didn't even wait for him to reply and I left the room. Alec followed after a minute. "Hey man, so where'd you go for the past 2 days?" he asked while giving me hug. I went straight to the point though, "Why were you holding Katalina's hand?". His smile faltered then, "What? What do you mean?". I rolled my eyes, "Alec, just tell me why you were holding her hand. It's so simple" I said annoyed. Alec stepped back, "Look Demetri, I don't know what's gotten into you, but Katalina and I were just talking. I held her hand because she was telling me something important. Now is that what you wanted to hear?" he said defensively. "What was she telling you?" I asked him. Alec looked away in annoyance, "Really? Why don't you just go ask her? It's not a big deal Demetri" Alec replied. I glared at Alec, "I'm asking you though Alec". "Are we really going to argue right now?" he said while spreading his arms. I looked at him and left to enter the room. "Have a goodnight Alec" I said finally.

I entered the room and found Katalina out in the balcony. I walked up to her and I stood by her. We stood in silence for a while. "You're back" she said. I looked out into the distance, "I am". She kept her sight on the night sky, "Why did you go?". I tapped my foot lightly, "I needed some time to understand myself and really just think" I said. She nodded, "Don't worry, I know it's hard doing things for the first time". I gave her a glare as she chuckled at what she had said. "Ok ok, sorry. But in all seriousness, did it help? The time off I mean" she said. I nodded, "Yeah, it helped. I have a bigger understanding now. What about you? How were these 2 days without me? It seems that you and Alec have gotten pretty close" I said bitterly. She looked at me then, "Alec, Jane, and I did some activities. The first day, Alec and I sword fought, and on the 2nd day, Alec gave a pottery lesson to Jane and I" she chuckled. I cracked a small smile, "It sounds like you had a great time". She nodded and then she turned her body towards me. "Demetri, are you ok? Like, are you actually ok" she asked. I was confused by her question. If I'm ok? "I mean yeah. Why wouldn't I be?" I replied. She nodded her head, "I just wanted to check up on you".

We went back inside and she took a seat on the chair. "The Volturi is holding a a ball next week" I said. "Oh really? That's nice" she said. "It will be held for 2 days and everybody has to bring a partner" I continued. I observed her expressions. She didn't seem nervous or anything. She was just calm. Is she not getting to what I'm trying to say? How am I going to tell her? What if she says no? "Oh, I suppose you've asked somebody already, right? You've got many admirers I hear" she replied. I looked at her, "No, I've actually haven't asked anybody". She raised her eyebrows, "Really? Do you need help asking someone?" she questioned. I sighed, "No, I don't need help. I was actually going to ask you" I finally got out. Oh my god, that totally took me a whole lot of power to get out. She widened her eyes a little bit, "Me? Why me?" she said while pointing to herself. I smiled at her, "There's actually a reason why, but I would like to tell you it on the last day of the ball. If I may" I responded. She cracked a smile, "Haha, ok fine". I held my hands together then, "Does that mean that you will accept my invitation?" I said quizzically. She smiled playfully, "Of course". I felt butterflies in my stomach then.

Sunday

Katalina's POV -

"Wait, so Demetri asked you to the ball? ACKKKK" Jane shrieked. I panicked, "Jane lower your voice!! They might hear" I blushed. She quieted down then, but she couldn't stop from smiling widely. "My ship is sailing" she said happily. "Your what?" I asked confused. She rolled her eyes playfully, "Sorry, I forgot you're like a bajillion years old". I scoffed, "What do you mean?? You're also really old" I said. She just chuckled. I shook my head while laughing. "Now what's going on here?" Alec said while coming in. I motioned him to come sit next to me, "Its nothing, nothing" I said while laughing. Then I turned towards Alec, "Alec, serious question here" I said. He looked at me surprised, "What is it?" he asked confused. I smiled at him, "Who are you taking to the ball this week?". He chucked, "Who am I taking? Well I don't know" he said. I wined, "C'mon, Alec. You should tell us. Or is there someone in particular that you need help in asking?" I teased. "Actually, there is someone in particular. But, to my dismay, someone has already asked her" he said softly. I sighed, "Really? Who was it?" I asked. He shook his head lightly, "Someone" he muttered. I frowned, but I let it go. He probably doesn't want to talk about it right now. I glanced at Jane and I noticed that she was giving him a slight pitiful look. Maybe she knows, but I won't be going into their business. "Well, Katalina and I have to go dress shopping then" Jane spoke up then. I looked at her, "Oh yeah, I forgot to ask you. Who are you going with Jane?" I asked her. She smiled, "Well since my brother here doesn't have a date.." she teased, he rolled his eyes at her, "I will be his partner" she finished. Alec just shrugged and grumbled, "fine..". "Brother, you should show at least some enthusiasm" she scoffed while putting a hand to her chest. I wrapped my arms around Alec then, "Oh, I'm pretty sure Alec meant no harm, right Alec" I said while playing with his hair. He chuckled, "Yes". Jane humphed, "Well either way, Katalina and I will be dress shopping today. So we'll see you brother" she said while standing up. We both looked at her surprised, "I'm leaving the castle?" I spoke. "Jane, you know Demetri doesn't let her out anywhere if she's not with me or him" he told her quietly. I chuckled lightly. I can still hear them. I'm a demigod for Poseidon's sake. "That's why you'll be coming" she said. Alec looked away, "Jane, I have other things to do. I can't go with you guys". "But Alec.." Jane continued. He grabbed her hand lightly, "Jane, I'll call some designers to come today and bring their best dresses. But, you cannot leave with Katalina" he said finally. Jane seemed annoyed but she understood her brother. "Ok fine" Jane said. Alec looked at me and he smiled apologetically. I smiled back and just waved him a bye.
