10: "Crumbling Down"

[Luke's P.O.V.]

"See you after school Luke," Dawn smiled, pecking a kiss on my cheek before I stepped out to the porch.

"Are you sure you're not coming with me? I mean, I could see you around free time... if I'm at class you could just roam around, it was once your school after all right?" I blocked my foot to the door before she could close it.

"That's why I took a break to be not around school environment, Lukey." she giggled, fluttering her eyelashes like she always do when laughing. "Plus, I need to arrange some papers I need before I go back to Oklahoma. We'll just see each other later, Luke."

"Well... okay then. Take care Dawn," I smiled, raising my left hand in a simple wave.

"You too Lukey," she smiled back, her ever wonderful smile that lightens up my day.

She closed the door and I started heading out to the street, stopping to turn my back once and saw her waving her hand from the window.

I liked Dawn ever since I met her. She was Tina's bestfriend, which made me avoid her from the first time we met.

I thought she would be a gruesome witch like Tina, but she's so kind.

One time when I was running late, I tripped and my project fell to the flowing rain water on the canal. I was so pissed because I worked hard on it, and I know that my parents would go on about the same thing. That I was being an asshole again not doing my homework and projects or taking school seriously.

She was late at that time too, and she saw me crying. I hate it when somebody sees me crying.

I was rude to her, but she just smiled and helped me go to the clinic to treat my wound. While I was being treated by the school nurse, she took out some materials and made something.

I asked her if she's done with the project, and she said yes. She was making a project for me.

I told her not to, but she insisted anyway. I owe her a lot that day.

From then on I tried avoiding her again, because I always see her around Tina and seeing Tina would just make my blood boil.

But whenever both of them are laughing, it just seems so angelic to see her laugh.

She was my date for a school's ball. I didn't have the courage to ask her, and I felt sad when some guy asked her first. I actually tried to go to her.

She was talking to the guys, she sees me and mumbles something to the dude. She politely turned him down and chased me when I ran away in shame, and then she asked me if it was okay if we both have each other for dance at the ball.

I was so glad, and it was my best night ever.

Eventually Tina kept Dawn away from me, and I thought she was poisoning Dawn's thoughts about me.

Dawn told me that Tina didn't exactly poison her thoughts, but warned her of me. I told her otherwise when we were dancing, and I instantly became annoyed at Tina again.

Because of that, I ordered Michael to spill a drink over Tina's dress. Tina was so pissed, Dawn wanted to go home with her but I pleaded her not.

In the end, Dawn decided to stay, which made Tina hate me even more. How couldn't she, when her bestfriend chose me over her?

Actually remembering the times where Tina would always be between us Dawn because she wanted to keep her bestfriend away from me, the guy she hates, is totally funny.

And speaking of Tina... I forgot that she's my girlfriend.

Shit, maybe that's the reason why the guys were mad at me yesterday!

I didn't notice I already arrived in school. I strolled through the hallway to make my way to the lockers.

"Are you really Luke's girlfriend?" I stopped with what I heard. I peeked by the wall, seeing Tina facing Brenda and her troop. These bitches again?

"I don't know. Let me check if maybe I'm his grandmother," she responded with clear sarcasm.

Wow, the guys taught her well on this bad girl thing.

"Don't you dare sass us!" Hillary slapped her, but Tina just stood there and held her face.

Isn't she gonna fight back? That girl slapped her!

"We know you're not Luke's girlfriend, you're just a wannabe! We saw him with Dawn yesterday! Do you want us to tell Dawn about this? You're trying to steal Luke from your bestfriend?!" Brenda yelled at her. She gritted her teeth and faced them back.

Her voice trembles but she said it firm, "Don't! Yes, I'm not Luke's girlfriend, okay? All of this was just a joke! He loves Dawn, Dawn loves him! That's just it!" she said, trying to low down her voice.

What is she trying to do? She must defend herself!

"Aha! You're that desperate, huh? Who are we kidding anyway. You might have changed your style, but Luke will never like you! Look at yourself! You're a nerd, a dork, an 80's old fashioned trash! You're no-" before she could finish talking, I pushed her against the wall and held Tina behind me.

"First of all, if there's someone ugly here it's all of you! Not Tina! She's beautiful. She's gorgeous. I love the way she smiles, the way she looks so innocent when confused, and she’s perfect for me! And it's not because she changed her style now! She was beautiful way back then! She's my girlfriend! I just welcomed Dawn home, okay? She's not desperate, because I was the one who wanted her to be my girlfriend. And none of that was a joke." I shouted, making these horrid girls quiver with fear and ran away.

I heard sniffling and I hurriedly turned to Tina. I placed her head on my chest and wrapped her tight in my arms.

"You didn't have to do that Luke... we can't keep on pretending this, I know you love Dawn. It's okay if they keep being mean to me, it's my fault anyway. They're right, I'm a nerd... nobody would like me." I feel my shirt getting wet because of her tears. I hugged her even tighter.

One thing I hate more than anybody seeing me cry, is seeing someone important to me crying.

"Don't cry Tina, in the rules of being bad, you must not cry." I rubbed her back as she kept on sobbing.

"The guys didn't tell me that." she chuckled a bit and parted from me. I took my handkerchief from my pocket and handed it to her, she then wiped away her tears.

"Well now I'm telling you," I smiled and she sucked in a breath, "just so you know Tina, we don't have to pretend. We could try this thing to work."

Wait, what did I say?

She frowned and handed me back my handkerchief, "Of course, thing." she hurriedly walked away.

"Wait, are you mad? Why? Tina!" I followed her and luckily caught up with her. She walks very fast for a girl.

"Stick with Dawn, I know you like her." she huffed and started walking away again.

I stopped and sighed, "Tina! Are you serious? Why are you mad at me? What's wrong with trying?"

She stopped walking too, and said without facing me, "Whether this relationship is real or not, we're over."
