A/N - This chapter is based on the song 'Meant To Be' by Florida Georgia Line and Bebe Rexha. It's set in a world after Endgame, where Tony never dies, and has been married to the Reader since before the first Avengers movie. I hope you all enjoy it.
To say that you were surprised when Tony had suggested that he should take a break from his work would be the biggest understatement anyone had ever heard. He had been a workaholic for as long as you had known him, and even though he had burnt out on many occasions, he only ever took off the smallest amount of time possible to take care of himself. It was frustrating, watching him work himself half to death, and after the Avenger's had defeated Thanos and brought everyone back to Earth, he had only started working harder. If there was work to do, he was doing it.
And then he had walked into your bedroom one night, and collapsed onto the bed in the most overdramatic way possible, drawing a soft giggle from you as you poked at his shoulder with your toes. "You still alive, baby?" you hummed, still grinning down at him as he tilted his head to peer up at you.
"I think I need to take some time off," he muttered, and you couldn't help but go all wide eyed at his comment. "Think we should take a couple of weeks and just drive somewhere," he added, watching as the shock in your expression seemed to fade into pure joy.
You nodded, shifting down the bed to lay next to him. "That sounds nice," you started softly, pulling his arm up and linking your fingers with his. "Where would you want to go?"
He shrugged, drawing your entwined hands to his lips and pressing a gentle kiss to your knuckles. "Anywhere, as long as you're coming with me."

A couple of weeks later, you were packing up the car, ready for your little road trip, still unsure of your destination. A part of you was a little surprised you had made it this far. You had been so certain that Tony was all talk, that you would both talk up the trip for weeks and weeks, until it all fell through and you settled for a weekend at home, rather than a three week adventure.
"You want me to take the first shift driving?" Tony uttered, whilst attempting to figure out an effective way to stack your bags in the trunk. You shrugged slightly, your hand running over his spine as you nudged him out of the way, taking over for him.
"I don't mind-"
"Come on," he interrupted, hands resting on your hips as you continued to shift the bags around. "This is your break too, I need you to actively participate rather than just letting me make all the decisions."
You hummed, finally getting your luggage perfectly stored away, and turning to face him. "Okay," you started, smiling sweetly up at him. "I'm not a fan of driving in the city, so I would prefer it if you took the first shift," you told him, watching a grin bloomed on his lips.
"Perfect." He pressed a quick kiss to your lips before releasing you and nudging you towards the passenger seat. "Sit your pretty butt down and get comfy then, Princess."
You chuckled as you did as he told you, settling in for a hell of a lot of Manhattan traffic. He slid into the seat beside you, looking positively giddy as he turned on the car. In all honesty, you'd never seen him so excited about anything before, and you couldn't help but smile along with him.

A road trip was probably the best idea Tony had ever had. Cruising down practically empty roads with the windows wound down and the music blasting from your speakers was one of the most therapeutic things in the world. And God, you hadn't realised how much you had needed that feeling of freedom in your life.
